You have some catching up to do!

A quarter of Britons say they believe in ‘a god’. Four in ten neither believe in ‘a god’ nor in a ‘higher power’

Although the United Kingdom is a monarchy formally led by a ruler who also governs the official church – the Church of England – belief in ‘a god’ in the UK is low. Only a quarter of Britons (27%) say they actually believe in ‘a god’. A further one in six (16%) believe in the existence of ‘a higher spiritual power’, but not ‘a god’.

Amongst British Christians, just over half (56%) believe in the existence of God, whilst 16% believe in a higher power. One in ten (10%) of British Christians say they do not believe there is ‘a god’ or ‘a higher power’.

Belief in ‘a god’ is low across all age groups. Older Britons – those aged 60 and above – are the most likely to believe in a supreme deity, but even there just a third (36%) hold this view.

Overall, four in ten (41%) Britons believe there is neither ‘a god’ nor ‘a higher power’. Younger generations are the most likely to think there is no greater force out there, including 50% of 25-39 year olds and 45% of 16-24 year olds, compared to 32% of those 60 and over.

The bit that startles me is that only just over half of _Christians_ believe in God.

LOL, 1 in 10 don't even believe in a god/higher power? Just sticking with it for the social aspect, I guess?
Either way, good on y'all.

Well, when they do show up it largely invalidates all major religions.

Still get to keep scientology though ...
IDK, it read more as "that'll show the atheists" based on the phrasing, which is why I was confused.

Dunno, I've seen it argued both ways for sure. But, to me, there's no consistent logic to any of the major religions once the little green men show up. Not there was much to being with.

81% is still way too high imo.
It is unacceptably too high, as we work our way to a christian shira ruled country resembling Gilead.

Percent of residents who said they were certain of God's existence:
  • Japan: 4.3 percent
  • East Germany: 7.8 percent
  • Sweden: 10.2
  • Czech Republic: 11.1
  • Denmark: 13.0
  • Norway: 14.8
  • France: 15.5
  • Great Britain: 16.8
  • The Netherlands: 21.2
  • Austria: 21.4
  • Latvia: 21.7
  • Hungary: 23.5
  • Slovenia: 23.6
  • Australia: 24.9
  • Switzerland: 25.0
  • New Zealand: 26.4
  • West Germany: 26.7
  • Russia: 30.5
  • Spain: 38.4
  • Slovakia: 39.2
  • Italy: 41.0
  • Ireland: 43.2
  • Northern Ireland: 45.6
  • Portugal: 50.9
  • Cyprus: 59.0
  • United States: 60.6
  • Poland: 62.0
  • Israel: 65.5
  • Chile: 79.4
  • The Philippines: 83.6

81%? All time low? Mmmm ok.

Of course God exists and is present in our everyday lives. But this life was never meant to be nothing but rainbows and lollipops. That is for the next life.

This life is a struggle all the way until the end but with some good times along the way.

Once we get the government involved with your religion we’ll make the appropriate changes to it so you don’t burn in hell.

We’ll also make sure an appropriate amount of your investments are going to the right church via the IRS. No being a cheepskate when the collection plate comes around anymore!

;)

To me, the shift toward atheism doesn’t need much drama to justify.

Atheism isn’t a belief system as such; it’s just a willingness to let the evidence dictate the answers, and to accept that sometimes the answer is unpleasant or out of reach. Religion doesn’t allow that freedom, and looks for quick answers rather than the right ones. That’s all.

Sorry, @FelixDeCat , but it’s not an “of course.” That would require obvious evidence you don’t have.

The GOP has replaced God with their presidential candidate and most people worship the dollar above all else so I'd say those numbers are too high.

Do you think that by painting religion as a Republican anti-woman thing we can get this down under 50% at least for young people?

I shouldn't be good in hopes that I go to fairy land in the sky when I die. I should be good because it's the right thing to do. I don't need religion or an appeal to a higher power to make me a better human being.
Exactly and it is a fact that you don't need it because what the confused call or deny as God really does exist. You don't need to believe any more than you need to doubt. You just do the good the best you can. It takes really being fucked up for that not to manifest naturally.

70% think it's the literal word of god or inspired by god, that's pretty high.
If there is one group that better hope the Bible isn't the literal word of God it ought to be Conservative Christians. Otherwise what would be the point of hypocrisy?

Well let me just confess that I believe that the bible is 100% the word of God, however, one must differentiate between a Christian and the pharisees, Sadducees and the scribes which most religious people are. Even Jesus had to deal with the religitards in his day as they were the most numerous lot of people perpetrating religion and control over the people using religion while having no clue who God is.

They were out in public hunting a prostitute to stone her to death when he confronted them about their hypocrisy and made them leave her alone. Religion today is big on this behavior in public with their open displays of it plus they are the ones trying to force their views on you and me while protesting anyone or thing trying to do the same to them.

The bible clearly states that Christians are the "minority" in that few people will ever find it even though the majority claim to be it. Jesus' words were straight is the gate and narrow is the path that leadeth unto life and few there be that find it. If I'm honest I can't stand to be around church people as they are the most judgemental bunch you will ever find even though the bible tells you not to do it.

Holy crap.

Situation is much worse than I assumed. 81% of US citizens believe in magic marvel super heroes. That is like. Fucked up. And a situation ripe for exploitation.
