I have repeatedly said that in many cases, laziness plays a big part in peoples inability to lose weight. But, in some cases, metabolism and other factors are what make a person or people fat. Our society as a whole should change so that the obesity epidemic can be stopped, but people should be more educated when it comes to how the body deals with fat.

Society does not need to change. INDIVIDUALS need to change.

Cheap food is a GOOD thing. For thousands of years, we cried that the poor could not afford to eat. Now everyone can afford to get fat.

Automation is a GOOD thing. It makes us all more productive and brings far more goods to lower income people.

The problem is with the individual. Society is just fine.

I have to agree, plus I don't see what the hell you'd change to stop the obesity "epidemic". I'm going postal if beer and pizza are outlawed....half the reason I ride a bike is so I can enjoy such things. :D

I never said anything about outlawing foods or anything, if so many are getting fat, as you all have stated, then how is it the individual? I mean, some of it may be the individual, but not all of it.

No, it is all the individual. If many people are dying from smoking, does society need to change, or the individuals? The cause of obesity is too little activity and/or too much food. That's it. Those are INDIVIDUAL obligations.

Amused... you should change your name to Aynranded....

Society is changing... look at the Atkins movement... the food available to us changes based upon the demand of the population... you may want Pizza and Beer, but as the population of fat people increases, the demand for healthy foods will increase... and access to your beloved fast food, pizza and beer will decrease.... sorry man... that's free market in action.

(Wait a sec... did I just say access to beer will decrease?... Jesus christ! no! I'll have to see about instituting a fascist beer-based regime... beer before all else!)

BTW I did Shoulders and Back today.... shoulders always absolutely murders me, and old football back injuries don't help either... I think I'll just sit here and quietly cry to myself...

Thank you. Ayn Rand was a genius.

Market forces have never taken a basic food off the market.

Sorry, but I doubt access to pizza will ever decrease due to dwindling demand. 40% of this country still has no weight problem. And a large % of those who do still can eat pizza in limited servings.

Again, this is an INDIVIDUAL problem. Not a social one.

I did shoulders and biceps yesterday. One of my favorite days.

Here is my split:

Mon: Chest and tris
Tue: Back and abs
Wed: Off
Thur: Shoulders and bis
Fri: Legs and abs

Monday and Thursday are my favorite days. Tuesday and Friday are my least favorite... but I NEVER slack off.

I agree again, from one of this forum's heaviest members, I'd guess. Those numbers are a bit inaccurate as well. For instance, when looking at the "healthy" weight of my athletic "fullback" looking brother, we looked at his body fat percentage and figured that he would be considered overweight if his BFP was at 0%. (impossible of course)

I cannot eat pizza or most any junk food because of an odd allergy, yet I'm still very overweight by the charts. This isn't because society forces me to eat a certain way or TV. I'm responsible for my own health, even if genetics are working against me. To put the blame on society would be the same as admitting I had no control of my life. If so, why should I (assumed powerless compared to society) try to maintain a healthy weight? The only logical (or practical) approach is to deal with such problems on an individual level.

Atkins and the like will come and go. Whether a person chooses a fad diet, established weight loss options, or to remain fat (to different degrees) will impact the statistics more than BK throwing a few oranges into their chickenfat meal.
