Well Vic your only following nature, the vast majority of a preditors prey are the young or injured. Some might see that as cruel but nature makes no such arbitrary judgements.

Exactly my point! This is nature. Humans would not be intelligent if we were herbivores and our only prey was grass.

Humans are intelligent because we were genetically designed as such, along with the purpose to eat meat, veggies, etc. It's just as possible to genetically engineer us to eat grass, and still be intelligent, but there is no pleasure in that for us.
Oh? And when's the last time you saw an intelligent herbivore? How and why do you suppose we were genetically designed as such? By some God that willed it? Or by the natural process of evolution that works according to what IS?

But that satement wasnt assertive. it was aggressive.

My next thought was changing the conversation or just walking away.
But that's passive to me wanting to express my opinion that he's wrong.

So what's the assertive thing to say?

Vegetables are dead when picked.
Tell him he's a murderer.

Well, since 3 hours has brought no decent factual responses...here goes. Ask him if he prefers that a large portion of the deer population in this country die from disease and starvation, because that's what will happen if the is no hunting allowed. Deer largely have no natural predators on this continent anymore and if their population is left unchecked they will die, suffering, in huge numbers of disease and starvation.

Hunting is a necessary part of conservation and wildlife management and your co-worker is an ill informed idiot. Besides, the fees hunters pay for licensing and deer tags every year more than pay for the agencies that enforce and manage the wildlife in this country and the meat is used to feed people ranging from the poor to those who like to eat natural food. It's a win win situation...well, except for those who've watched Bambie too many times.

 This guy knows what he's talking about.

in addition to the most excellent post above...
dont forget also that most state sponsered hunting seasons are for these 2 additional reasons... to reduce animal population with the intent of limiting crop damage for farmers & vehicle accidents involving large game...

I hunt some animals that I do not eat, to do my part to keep the population in check. So far I have killed 7 cougar in the past 5 years, and have not eaten one ounce of the meat. Makes for great wallpaper when the hide gets back from the taxidermist. I also regularly hunt coyotes, but I dont keep the hides or anything, I just take the ears in for the bounty.

I could kill 100 of them without tags and I would probably get a letter of appreciation from Fish and Game. Those damn things are everywhere here, and it is all because the banned hunting them with dogs years ago. The worst part is that they are not afraid of people any longer.

Hey I'm not against hunting at all but if the Coyotes are everywhere, isn't that because they are an indigenous predator
to the area??. We modified their environment by placing thousands of grazing livestock in it, were they supposed to evolve
and learn to not like meat??

How many vegetables had to DIE for YOUR salad?

Hunters may kill animals, but that does not make them murderers. Kill != murder. I have nothing against being vegetarian, but if you're going to judge other people for eating meat then you deserve to be ridiculed.

Rationality and logic step in. My hat is off to JulesMaximus for an excellent post 🙂

Evolution is a myth, but let's not start that argument here again 🙂 I don't think scientists are wrong in that man decended from monkey, monkey from fish, etc., but to think that all of this happened by chance is nuts. The "designers" when they first created life on earth created unicellular life, which then gave rise to more complex forms of life through improved (or evolving) techniques of creation and environmental adaptation. We've essentially begun this process now, or should I said Dr. Craig Venter has with the creation of the first totally synthetic unicellular organism. Science will expand upon this over a period of time to create more complex forms of life, building upon what it previously acheived. From a distance, another advanced civilization could interpret this a evolution as well; but the reality is that none of it is happening by chance. Look at the color of some birds and their bizarre mating rituals; the curled horns of some antelope - why would evolution create that? There is that blue bird of paradise, that has big smiley face on it's back that you can see when it spreads its wings and jumps around - that happened by chance? I think not 🙂

Not everything taught to you in mainstream university science classes is fact. Another big myth dumped on us is the notion that gravity dominates the universe, when in fact, I believe it is electricity and plasma - but that won't be taught that in any university class 🙂

I'm a logical thinker who prefers to cast aside emotion since that only clouds the decision making process.

Sorry if I offended you, but I do think that your views are a bit wacked.

I don't eat meat, but I don't tell others what they should or shouldn't do... am I limp wristed as well? 😛

BTW, it is funny that michaels called the guy you were arguing with limp wristed when you have to run to a message board to come up with something to say to such a weak argument

That's right what you gonna do about it?
People who eat meat are horrible people as well.

The same goes for milk drinkers.

All of you are going to the hell

That's OK, there'll be plenty of hunting to do in hell, what with all the muslims being there.

Yep, right in line behinding all the zealot Christians.

You start an argument by saying "let's not start that argument here again?" You're the one who's nuts.

Evolution does not say that "all of this happened by chance." It just says "all of life behaves in a particular manner."

This is the intelligent design argument I hate the most. "Well, it's SO unlikely, it's NEVER going to happen!" It completely ignores the fact that mutations are under selective pressure and makes the absolutely retarded claim that just because something is unlikely it can't happen. Why don't you read something about it before making an uninformed decision.

"Hunt for sport and endanger species to extinction and go pro-life because we're the superior beings and they're the ones that need the population control."

There, I put more wood in the fire, lesse if it burns good. 😛

How did this argument go this way? Anyway, evolution is not chance any more that it is chance that electricity always follows the path of least resistance. It is what is. One could argue that some deity set it all in motion, but the mechanics observe precise rules quite clearly without divine intervention.

Damn vegetarians... next time you see him make sure you have a nice big turkey sub with you from Subway or something.. with a glass of milk, haha.
