An online video purports to show Islamic State group militants beheading Japanese journalist Kenji Goto. The video, released late Saturday, shows a militant with a British accent beheading Goto.
The video, released via militant websites, bore the symbols of previous Islamic State group videos. It could not be immediately independently confirmed by The Associated Press.

You know what I would do if I were President? I would get on national TV with an Arabic translator and say anyone that comes forward with information leading to the capture of the man shown in these beheading videos will be awarded 200 million and safe haven to any country that you chose by the United States.

Then once the bastard beheader is captured I would have him flown to Israel. I would then jump on Air Force one, fly to Israel and beat the ever lived shit out of him. Making him think twice about fucking with the United States. :colbert:

One man? Your response is futile.

ISIS needs a military campaign waged against them, to decimate their ability to move men and supplies within their territory.

If it were up to me, I would schedule the prisoner swap and after they come to pick up their beloved suicide bomber, bomb the shit out of their convoy as they leave. Sniper would also be fine.

Anyone working in an area where they are in danger of being kidnapped should have a tracking device embedded in them that way we know where they are if they are kidnapped.

Is that how they want it? I figured it was a faith based program, release the prisoner into the wild... and later they'll maybe consider not killing their hostage.

It's sad, but the death toll is on par with a bad car accident, which happen every day without much fanfare outside of the immediate area.
Except in this case, it's even less of a concern, since it's very easy to avoid the risk of being a victim of such situation. Don't go to Iraq or Syria.

Someone has been watching too many movies lately. Are you Harrison Ford in this fantasy world?

I have zero use for ISIS but it requires a real world response not a Hollywood fantasy.

One thing I don't understand about ISIS is their insatiable desire to anger world powers against their cause. Had they not gotten their rockers off beheading Westerners, they'd be parading through Kobani right now and possibly Damascus too. But nope, you had to resort to angering the world's single military superpower who responded by bombing you into oblivion. And now, you've not only angered the United States, but you've angered Japan.

Apparently ISIS doesn't realize why the Japanese Tiger was de-clawed 70 years ago...

Have you ever thought those bombs reigning down from US jets helps with recruiting?

Make it rain Ebola corpses and napalm in Raqqa. Nuke the survivors. It's the only way to be sure.

For those who don't get the references, chill out, I am obviously not serious. About the nukes and Ebola part anyway.

It does to a varying degree, however all the numbers in the world mean nothing in the face of vastly superior firepower. I don't say that because I'm American, but because it's just how war works; it's not like ISIS can even fire back.

Since Western nations have been introduced into the Syrian Civil War, ISIS has experienced significant loss of manpower, leadership, money, and most importantly, initiative.

People dying to the flu or other easily preventable illnesses one can be vaccinated from is one thing, but being decapitated by a terrorist is another. I demand that billions of dollars be ransacked from education immediately to pay for a war on these bastards. We can start by arming the local populace with weapons and giving them military training to kill professionally, so they can do the work for us. Then they will be grateful and it will never backfire on us in any way.

I say we laugh at their efforts to behead us by showing them this thread proving the futility of their efforts by this conclusive evidence that we are already brain dead.

Shut up, Moonbeam! We need to begin immediately to cut the heads of Muslims off until this hideous beheading stops.

Their whole purpose is to provoke a heavy-handed response from the West, which they know - because of the consequent unavoidable collateral damage brought down on civilians - will alienate even further from the West those living in the countries ISIS operates in. And time and again, the West falls for it.

Have they? We have been involved one way or another in the Syrian civil war for nearly 3 years. Over that time ISIS has expanded their territory and resource pool. It is the reason why we have started bombing with aircraft and sending combat troops back to Iraq.

All the manpower in the world means nothing against superior firepower in a war between states and armies. All the firepower in the world means very little against an enemy that is willing to fight among the people. Iraq being a perfect example of both. We decimated the Iraqi army(state) then failed to achieve victory against an enemy that blended in with the population.

And you'd be absolutely correct, and I mean absolutely correct, if it not for the fact that ISIS operates their forces more like a state military rather than a militia (they're a bit of a blend). That's not to say that removing the ISIS cancer from the Middle East will be easy, and it'll have to be done by a combination of Iraqi, Syrian, and Kurdish blood (not Americans), but ever since the coalition bombing campaign started in September, ISIS went from gaining ground on all fronts to losing ground on all fronts. The only theatre of war they're making gains in is on the Damascus side, and that's only because we don't operate and/or coordinate there like we do in Kurdistan and Iraq.

The war ain't over, but Kobani was their Stalingrad if you look at it in terms of military momentum. It's all downhill for ISIS from here assuming the Iraq, Syria, and Kurdistan are willing to pay the price in blood to regain their sovereignty back. Retaking cities like Mosul and Raqqa will be horrendously costly, and ISIS knows that, so they may win this war by default.

Cities never have to be taken, just surrounded and trapped. Supply lines are their life's blood.

I'm really shocked (well not really) at the callous responses here. These bearded savages beheaded a guy for no good reason. They're the MS13 of the middle east but with a religious twist and better weapons. I feel sorry for the guy and his family and hope someday they get justice.
