Beggers at gas stations!!!

Does this happen to you guys often...

You're standing there at the gas station, pumping gas, minding your own business, when someone (usually a woman) walks up to you asking for "gas money".

She isn't standing next to a car, she doesn't point out her car, she doesn't ask you to pay for the gas directly, she just tells you she needs some spare gas money.

I must have stupid written on my forehead, cause this has happened to me twice in the past week.

Sigh...

i get that ALL the time here. parking lots of strip malls, grocery stores, blah blah blah.

I just say, "sorry, i don't carry cash."

You're not blonde by any chance are you? 😉 😀

Edit: Wow, for some reason I thought you were a woman

That was the single most annoying thing about DC when I was there - Freakin' beggars.

They get you on the way into the store, and on the way back out.

I ignored you the first time, what the hell makes you think it'll be any different the second time around?

yep

that's my line to all the bums and beggars and stuff, or "sorry, i need this to pay for my own gas" *points to gas guzzling rx or dad's suburban*

That's almost as bad as beggars standing at the freeway on-ramps while the freeway on-ramp lights are on. Cars all lined up waiting their turn to get onto the freeway and some guy standing there with a sign that says that all his stuff was stolen and he needs money.

Jeez.

Get a job.

I have never seen a begger at a gas station. Once at my bus stop a black teenager dressed up like a gang member walked up to me and asked if I had 50 cents for the bus, I told him I didn't have any money only my bus pass.

Never at the gas station, but a couple of times in mall parking lots... they usually say they need money either for gas or for bus fare...

Yea, of that I have no doubt. I look like I have money (even through I really don't) I guess...

They never seem to beg from the poor blokes driving the Nissan Sentra's! 😀

No, but we have them during rush-hour on the on-ramps. They regulate the flow of traffic, one car at a time per on-ramp, onto the freeway. It makes the freeway congestion less and allows traffic to more smoothly pan out over the hours.

No...just on the on-ramps...we have them in Chicago, too...
😉

Oh, it's bad here in Chicago. The closest gas station always has beggars, "just looking for some money for a sandwich," or someone looking for bus money to get home, or their car broke down, and they need money to call a tow truck...etc.

I usually just offer to put gas in their car and say I'll pay for it with my card.

At that point they usually decline and walk away. Haven't had a single person take me up on it.

I've had people come up to me and try to sell me things while I'm filling up the tank. Things like figurines, cosmetics, and $6 tins of gummy bears.

You have stop lights to get "on" the freeway?

Never seen that before, what part of the country do you live in?

NW Oregon. Basically, for either the one or the two lanes, there's a red light. Ever 4-6 seconds (depending on where you enter the freeway), the light turns green long enough to allow one car (plus the signs that say one car per green) to pass, speed up, and merge onto the freeway.

Weird... Down here we don't have anything like that, we just get onto the freeway...

That's the way it used to be, but traffic was HORRID on the freeway. Now it's only slightly horrid on the freeway while the on-ramps are jam packed and backed up onto the side streets.

Maybe it's one big conspiracy by the bums to give them more audience! 😛
