Beer Keg Ordinance

OXFORD ? If the Oxford Board of Aldermen passes a proposed keg ordinance, party hosts will need to be more careful about serving underage or inebriated guests.

Under the proposal, buying a three-gallon-or-larger container of beer or light wine would require a permit from the city clerk?s office. The purchaser?s name, address and age would be recorded along with the address where the keg will be served.

The purchaser also would sign a statement that he does not intend to serve minors, and no person or address would be allowed more than one keg at a time.

They passed a state law here a while back requiring kegs to be numbered/registered and the buyer's name be recorded. Oddly enough, sales of cans/bottles skyrocketed after it went into effect.

An Oxford police officer was also killed recently when he was dragged by a car on a DUI stop.

It's regrettable those things happened, but IMHO laws like this aren't going to do much to help.

No kegs in Utah but everyone just drives to Wyoming to buy them. Highway patrol is camped out on the state line before July 4/Superbowl/etc just itching to pull suspicious cars over but it doesn't really do much.

No kegs in Utah but everyone just drives to Wyoming to buy them. Highway patrol is camped out on the state line before July 4/Superbowl/etc just itching to pull suspicious cars over but it doesn't really do much.

If the neigbors call in a complaint for noise, bunch of cars on the street, etc. Cops come and ask for a keg permit. Cops take keg/s for no permit. End of party.

The police have zero right or ability to enter a home or domicile without probable cause. If a noise complaint is why they show up then make sure people stop making noise and remain in the house. Keep the door closed and do not allow them permission inside. Then, they have zero reason or cause to believe a keg is inside, so they cannot demand proof of a permit.

Very simple stuff, but frat-boys are stupid, and there will be people clowning around outside, a fight that requires a police response, or something else. If people party inside and don't create a scene the police have zero probable cause to enter or demand any type of permit. End of story.

smart cops will wait until they see the party spilling out and then go up to the house while due cause is out in the yard peeing in the bushes.

If the cops don't issue you a noise ordinance violation on the spot, they usually let you off with a warning that they will if they have to come back. Usually I take the hint and kick everyone but my close friends out at that point. Plus further pissing off the neighbors is asking for more trouble next time to decide to have a party.

I was under the assumption that we were talking about Oxford -- a notorious college town.
