Been banned from [H]...need my PMs for FS/FT...can anyone help?

Just ask someone to middleman, preferably a mod to post a topic or PM to collect PMs of info you need like addresses, and so on. Maybe have him/her give them a contact address to those guys.

Seems like easiest way to retain info back unless you want your old alias.

Wouldn't you have that info already in paypal or however you get the cash?

I don't believe they were banned for adblocking, rather they were banned for talking about adblocking.

I host a few really large clusters for some single site domains, and some pay us $xxxx a month, for JUST their boards...so no, it's not cheap to host.

Wow, that's pretty strict, I might expect an infraction, or even a temp ban, but permanently banning someone for complaining about the advertisements used? That's insane. Even a perm-ban for an admitted ad-blocker would be a bit harsh.

Glad to be here, where it is actually pretty hard to get a perma-ban.

I haven't been on [H] recently. I joined mainly because of the AT switchover to vBulletin.

I still remember when AT offered a paid subscription and you wouldn't get any ads.

Well, Ive PMed a few people...email one or two...see if we cant get this situated...even in the original thread that got me banned there are people calling bullshit about it...which I honestly truly think it is...we'll see what happens!

Sounds like the neogaf forums. There's all these bizarre rules on what you can and cannot post and if you screw up you get permabanned without warning.

I got banned for a month there for insinuating modded consoles are used for piracy.

Well, my thing is, Adblocker or not...if I dont hover or click on the embedded links, they arent getting any money for the ads anyways...so you can not have Adblocker and still not be supporting the forums with the bills...so shouldnt everyone be banned on that premise?

So I suppose its wiser to use Chrome and the AdBlock that just "hides" the ad rather than outright blocking it like the one in FF. It's easy tod etect the one in FF if your ad isn't even being downloaded, but the Chrome one would seem undetectable based on what I know from a surface view......

Only problem is that just hiding the ad still leaves you vulnerable if they contain any malicious code.

It's just a crappy situation IMO, I can understand both sides of the issue. People who block ads tend to have some pretty legitimate concerns, but running a site isn't cheap and ad impressions and click-throughs help to pay for it.

Really I think the best compromise is subscription ad-free browsing along with the traditional ad supported model. People who would rather not have ads probably wouldn't mind paying a small fee to get rid of them, and those who don't mind the nuisances and risks that come with ads can put up with them but browse for free. I think AnandTech used to have something like this, I'd be curious why they stopped offering it. Seems like a pretty good system to me.

Most of the browsers in the late 20's or older, namely people who are working and earning money, are usually in the mindset to be able to donate freely to their favorite site usually IF there is a problem with bills.. I think.

It's just a certain age bracket as well as specific individuals who have a problem with being scrooges at their favorite sites. Just my two.

Well, I would have no problem paying...I love those forums...I just dont like the annoying ass popups and shit...like everytime you move your mouse theres like 3 popup ads that shoot out at you.

I would love to help but....see sig.

Huh? Ok, so I don't use FS/FT here or anywhere else, and I've never been on [H]ard, but wouldn't it be good to facilitate communication between the OP and the users who are trying to transact here? The OP seems to respect the ban, he just wants to close out his business, and helping him do so prevents other, not-banned users from having a shitty experience.

Am I missing something here?

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't read closely.

OT there > here.
Except you had to pay for it.

Really, care to go in details to why?

I found ATOT is the most active with various users, of all forums I am on, for general miscellany posts.

I find it hard to believe H has some kind of hidden pay-per-view den that supersedes here!

Maybe the fact that he is an "EX" (eg, former; not currently; used to be) [H] forum moderator. I would suspect he has also been banned, but that isn't clear.

IOW, he can't help but he would if he could.

I found the users there to be much more enjoyable. Lots of the threads here are lame parodies or just asking dumbass questions (not to get help type of questions) or something. There's winners on every forum, and there are losers too- I find more of the latter here. Plus, there was a lot less "hate" I suppose you could say against religion, etc. I'm all for people speaking there mind, but there comes a point that it just gets old you just sound stupid..and well...that is OT. GenMay was preferable.

Now kyle on the other hand can suck a fat one.
