My X1900XTX should arrive today, will be looking forward to see how it compares to the X1800XL and 512MB 7800GTX.

Anyone else mistake Ronnie for Rollo for a sec?

I was like, "damn... a GTX512, am X1800XL, AND an X1900XTX all in one week!"

Obvioulsy, the XL can't really be reasonably compared to any of his other cards in terms of performance, and he's already said that wasn't his intention.

Well he says he wants to evaluate angle-independent AF and HDR+AA, features from ATI that he's been panning for some time. We'll see if he really evaluates them with an open mind, or if he's just looking to give legitimacy to his criticisms.

Rollo: You dont wanna risk the 512, but I say you OC that X1800xl and see how much headroom it has. YOu might just get x1800xt speeds out of it.

quality-wise, not performance.

Whatever he does, it looks like you've already made up your mind about what he has to say...

I'm used to MORPHs hijinks Nitro.

My sole reason for buying the card was to evaluate IQ, if there's a big difference, I'll give ATI their props. If not, I'll say "meh". Either way, I'll be more satisfied with my evaluation of it if I can see the same scene rendered on both.

Won't be OCing the Radeon either, it's a nice card and I'm going to give someone a fair deal on a non OCd card when I'm done with it.

"Beauty" is Ruby/the Radeon.

The 512 GTX is the first card I've slimmed down to one card for, much loved SLI is going collect dust for a bit.

I didn't do that, we were working at a crappy company when we met, although we did get each other out of the deal. :)

I like the way you think... however, wait til ya have kids (if that's something in your future), and you have to decide what to do. In our case, we've got 3 kids (<1, 3, and 8), and we chose to have her stay home with them. That's, so far, 8+ years of single-income. It will be at least 4 more. Even at 100k a year, you'll still struggle.

But, back on topic, I can understand the XL purchase for testing the AF and HDR+AA, but why the 512GTX purchase?? It's a great card and all, but isn't it quite a drop from your SLI 256s?

I like to try new video cards, and I can get a very good deal on nV engineering samples. (sometimes)

Rollo,

don't forget to try the X1800XL on Sacrifice - I need closure on that! :)

Cheers, Mate.

I, Rollo, will never again mention Sacrifice and ATI. (your closure, don't want to load it and run it, not worth the patching, etc.)

I have to admit the X1800XL is a nice looking package, lean n mean. :)

This is my first post on the 512 GTX, the eagle has landed, and I am SLI-less for the first time in a year!

(well, not SLI-less, as I still have the 7800GTXs, 6800GTs, and 6600GTs, but none in use ATM)

My five year old is going to be packing some serious power with the 7800GTX SLI!

If you could just run some HQV on it, that'd be nice.

It's actually a lot lighter than you would expect, mostly aluminum. Very quiet though.
