Of course, this is true. Used is simply a big win/win. When we got our Mazda MPV it had 15k miles on it and was the same price as a barebones brand new Mazda 3. With 100k powertrain factory warranty it was a no-brainer. Used cars are just the best thing to do.Seriously, look at the used cars, they are great value.

I would get the AWD Matrix if I lived in Canada, but the Civic and Corolla are both good choices, I think it's just a preference on companies. I don't know if the Civic has a timing belt or chain, but the Corolla has a chain, I prefer it.

AWD is not something you just develop overnight. I doubt Toyota managed to just steal Subaru's AWD (They tried to takeover Subaru but got barred by the Japanese government) so I am weary of the Honda and Toyota AWD.

Toyota's Landcruiser has been around since since WWII. It's the favored vehicle of insurgents and terrorists worldwide.

I'm confused by the pole results.
The Matrix has 15 votes, and the Vibe has 5 votes. Don't people realize they are the same car?

Matrix is assembled in Cambridge, Ontario Canada. Vibe is NUMMI in Fremont.
As of December of 2008, the NUMMI plant produces the Toyota Corolla compact car, Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, the Toyota Matrix hatchback, and the Pontiac Vibe hatchback.

AWD drive is more expensive initially, mechanically complex to repair, and always increases fuel consumption. It increase GVW which increases braking distance.
Unless you live in the mountains or drive backroads its cons outweigh the pros
