Doesn't mean they don't have their place , but this guy is looking for A cheap and B reliable/maintenance free

and I am against the Matrix AWD choice 🙂 so we are in agreement.

whut? it's like US$1:C$1.30 now. I mean your cost, you ain't a bank so you don't get the rates you see on xe.com Buying used luxury from states may work out better

I don't see a need for AWD. There isn't much need since snow is pretty light in my city, roads are pretty well maintained and we essentially hibernate the car during the winter. There are too many retards on the road then, and we can afford to leave it parked for the majority of winter unless essential. That and fuel efficiency slides.

Meh, cross border shopping is too much a hassle. The exchange rate is pretty crappy right now, and we'd have to bus over. Not sure if the warranty works or not either (think it would). I doubt the savings would be that much since we're talking about some of the cheapest cars out there.

Unfortunately, and the Mazda 3 is pretty gone now. I, personally, love it, and will consider it as a personal vehicle in the future though, so . However, the other 2 people aren't onboard. One fears the availability of Mazda parts; to be fair, she's paying for most of it, and has driven beaters for 30 years, so just wants something that can be rolled down a mountain and still run 50k miles. The other just doesn't like sport-style cars, and has a major hard-on for the Honda Civic. I've priced the Vibe and the difference in price is minimal compared to the Civic/Matrix/Fit, so that's pretty out after you factor in the question mark hanging over GM's head.

Not even the used 6s in your price range I showed you? Civics are pretty meh. What do you mean availability of Mazda parts? In your price range, cross border is not worth the trouble.

The other 2 people being your wife and whom?

What part of Ontario are you at?

here is a Mazda 5, not sporty at all 🙂

lol

I got a chuckle out of that. No, I'm not married😉. It's a parent and a sibling; yes, I'm still a freeloader. I'll let you guess which is which.

I agree that Civics are meh. Everytime I walk past one I say to myself "Damn, that looks so standard, like your generic sedan". They don't age well either, but I don't hate them, so I could satisfactorilly comprimise on that vehicle.

From what I gathered, she read in the paper that Mazda parts are harder to find than Toyota, Honda and American. Essentially, she thinks they aren't as popular as those 3 or the Big 3, so if the shit hits the fan, we'd have more trouble. I think that's BS, and told her, so she's semi-onboard, but the sibling still doesn't like the sporty look.

I'll take a closer look at those used Hondas. A lot is still up in the air because we still haven't hit a dealership yet (this weekend), and just decided to buy a week ago.

And the city with the tracks in the streets that make for winter fun.

Lack of availability of Mazda parts seems pretty funny to me. First, there are Mazda dealers practically everywhere, and second, you can probably get every part from any Ford dealer if you really had to.

Ah well, I guess some people do get stuck into mindsets that can be hard to change.

Good luck! 🙂

The Matrix is not produced at NUMMI. I don't care what Wiki or whatever says. Also all other Toyota plants >> NUMMI.

A vote against the mazda3. I own one.

It's a great car if you get it as a cheap rental. you don't want to own one.

search for my past threads about it

Wait, you are not paying for the car? That totally means you are getting a Civic 🙂

I urge you to seriously consider used vehicle. There is a whole lof of them that just finished their lease term. A used V6 is going to kick any new small I4's ass. So you are in Toronto too 🙂

Mazda really surged back onto the scene with the Protegé5 that I drive 🙂 The longest I had to wait for a part was 2 days, but that was for a shifter cable, which technically was never supposed to break. I still don't know how mine broke, it's an automatic for crying out loud, how much stress can I put on the cable?

Go to go train station or bigger ttc stations and pick up those used car magazine and just flip through them
search on www.trader.ca too. There are tons of choices out there. Let some other people pay for the initial depreciation.

Mazdas are fun to drive.

Well, looks like we are the 'proud' owners of a new 2009 Civic DX. So, made 33 of you satisfied😉.

The pisser is that today was not suppose to be buying day. I did not go to the dealership cause it was suppose to be a short 'check-it-out' visit at a Toyota and/or Honda dealership and back (they went early, I wanted to sleep in and I already drove a fairly recent Civic). So, they come back in the afternoon and apparently already have the thing ordered.

The whole week, I told them not to buy so quickly, sleep on it, and they said "ok". In the end, they did not go to ONE other f***ing Honda dealership. There are well over 10 in my town, some just pretty close together. They did not attempt to talk down the price either. In this horseshit economy, with auto sales down to the shitter, even Honda having to cut back, they actually bought the salesman's pitch that "we don't make much off the car to begin with".

All they got was rust-proofing and floor mats ($900 MSRP) thrown in. Those items are probably in the "finish the deal" bin. Over $20k and they couldn't wait 1 week. And to add insult to injury, they chose light grey. That color is the new white.

I have no problem at all with the car (except color), but the impulsiveness, holy. You'd probably understand my discontent a bit more if you knew the past impulsive screw-ups these other people made. Guess I should have known better.

Oh well, thanks for all your help and opinions.

Told ya you are not choosing which car to get.

Seriously, look at the used cars, they are great value.
Of course, this is true. Used is simply a big win/win. When we got our Mazda MPV it had 15k miles on it and was the same price as a barebones brand new Mazda 3. With 100k powertrain factory warranty it was a no-brainer. Used cars are just the best thing to do.

Used is only a good deal if you're not buying a Honda or a Toyota. As others mentioned, when they're two years old they've barely depreciated so you may as well just buy a new one for barely any more money.
