WTF kind of a pussy bear is this? Why didn't he just get on its hind legs and break that lil cat's neck with one swipe?

I'm guessing because there's no reason for it to do so, and it could potentially suffer pretty catastrophic injuries against a cougar? i'm no wildlife expert, though...

Cats rock :^)

Edit:

Yup, that's a bad day :^D

the (surviving) victims of bear attacks usually describe themselves remaining conscious as the bear began to eat their face.

Bears just don't waste any time. Most other predators go for the kill, then drag the carcass away to somewhere safe. (like cougar and leopard taking kills into a tree--maybe just leopards, though?).

I suppose bears just figure nothing will try to fuck with them?

Some funny things about this video. The bear eating the moose is the obvious one. The second is that it was on May 6th and the guy has a lot of snow around. That is just fail there no way around it. The third is that the guy, despite living obviously in the middle of hell, actually has a boat. There is never a boating a season in a place that has snow on May 6th.

None of you have the correct take on this thread, just because in the grand scheme of things large number of Moose v Bear encounters in the larger history of the world, how can we conclude that if the bear won this battle, that bears will win all such encounters.

As for me, I was always a Rockey and Bullwinkle fan, and I demand a rematch.

The battle would be a lot more interesting with a bull moose.

Clearly you know not of what you speak. We have so many variations of bacon...if you don't like one, try another.

Perhaps... I know every time I get Canadian bacon down here, they give me a piece of ham :^D

Good point there , but its also a terrain question. I will always remember my first non Violent encounter with a full grown Moose in the wild. I was driving on a logging road and the ole Moose was off to side trucking along in the swamp. And the Moose was just picking up its feet and putting then down, in no particular hurry, and soon left me far behind.

Memo to self, never take on a Moose in Muskeg, Moose have a terrain advantage there.

The mother cougar will die to protect her cub(s). She will not stop, yield or surrender. The bear would have to be starving to risk an attack like this. That cougar is capable of killing a bear.

They are both apex predators and she is being driven by instinct to protect her offspring.

Omnivores are f*d up like that. They tend to not kill their prey before they start chowing down.
Pure carnivores usually (and mercifully) kill the prey before they set in on it. I don't include crocs/gators in that assumption. They're known to tear something limb from limb before it's dead.

For truely horrific omnivore eats, youtube search "chimpanzee eating monkey".

I can't think of a worse way to go. Being eaten alive...very much alive. D:

I pity the bear that faces a full grown bull moose during rutting season with a full set of antlers.

A 1500 lbs, hormone filled bull moose is a very dangerous animal.

I go up to Eagle lake in Ontario fishing once or twice a year depending...my bubby owns a lodge there so I get a good deal better earlier in season...anyway there was frkn snow in June one time and colder than witches tit. Sleet was coming down too. I'm like fuck this and only come mid July or later now.

One swipe to head = dead or KOed moose. Every time.
