You guys that are saying he's fake, either you didn't watch the show, or didn't read the disclaimers.

"Bear and crew receive aides in life threatening situations as required by law, etc..."

And

"Sometimes, situations are presented to Bear so he can demonstrate survival techniques..."

With that said, a lot of the things he did just to show you the most extreme scenarios, where you may need to resort to extreme measures, to SURVIVE. Don't forget that. He didn't have to slide down a cliff, but he explains why you may have to, and why sometimes it's necessary. And then he did it to show you just in case you have to, one of these days, and hope you remember the techniques...

There's just no pleasing some of you. I hope that when things are tough for you, you can just run to McD and buy a combo meal. Screw all that survival crap, amirite?

Although the show was fake, I still enjoyed watching it much more than Survivor Man. Bear Grylls had a more likable on screen personality.

Where's that video where he's walking along a really deep ravine/cliff talking about how it is impossible to pass, then the camera pans over and it's the very end and he could just walk around it...

I get the things like jumping into the water to show how to get dry properly. What I took issue with were the crafted scenarios that were completely bogus like: "If you're ever trapped in the Western Sierras you might be able to ride a wild horse". This was bogus not only because the horse used was domesticated but also because there are no wild horses in the Sierras. If he'd have been the Pine Nut mountains just east of the Sierras that would be a different matter but then he'd be in high desert and the rest of his episode would have been different.

the seal suit. seriously, who thinks of doing that?

i see a dead seal. i'm going to skin it, wear it, and hope there are no sharks.

Though rare, but there are wild horses in the Sierras. I think you completely missed the point as well, and that is to improvise and use any means necessary. And since the horses are rare, they're not going to wait around for one to show up; let's just say they brought a horse for efficiency sakes.

Are you going to point out that there are almost always a helicopter picking him up at the end of the episodes too? Because you know, there are no helicopters in the wild...

Just like McGuyver it always seems easy to "improvise" whenever things are scripted. The right stuff just always happens to be there.

Luke Skywalker did it first.

No, it's television. They want to make the show as informative as possible, using the things you'd find in that locale, and as entertaining as possible. Of course they will script it, because they have to scram everything into an hour show. They'd research the land, geography, resources, etc... To make sure that if you're ever stuck in the same locale, at least you'd remember what's the worst things you'll face, what's available to you, etc ...

Keep on missing the point.

The point of the show is Bear being badass, true. The point of this thread is its all bullshit and needs to be accepted as such.
And if I want to explain shit I just check with Fox News. They have all the answers.

Fox news says Bear Grylls wasn't a "survival reporter" but a "survival commentator" so all of his views should be taken as commentary and not held up to scrutiny.
