Midwayman - I very much dislike it when information is hidden away in comments but it's good to hear that I might have the chance to pop AC/20's into the arms of 3 Centurions and have an ECM Raven there to allow my Centurions to flank and close :)

Asynchronous was what MWT was supposed to be. It'd be great to have a match played out over a long period of time, setting a move away before work and checking the counter move when you get home and get your slippers on.

I'm even looking at picking up TRO 3025 and TRO 3039 from eBay to check up on things. Sarna's great but having a book in my hand is sometimes better.

because FASA stole the art from Robotech. they got away with the first edition of Mechwarrior, but eventually got found out, and it didn't go too well.

http://alex.kaempen.org/harmony_gold_v._fasa.html

The fact that MechWarrior Tactics had done an even worse job than the MWO team at drawing mechs (they looked completely redesigned and in some cases barely resembled the originals) was bad enough... then they scrapped the game for reasons unknown.

The Unseen and FASA's rip off of Robotech is completely irrelevant to what I was talking about and that point was already buried and put to bed in the previous posts.

Thanks for that. My only hesitation after looking more into it are that it is a turn based style game. So you make one move during your turn, then opposition makes a move, then its your turn again? This seems less appealing to me, though I might find I like it after trying it out.

Also since the release date is May 2017, I'm effectively pre-ordering by 1.5 years.

So really this would be more like supporting the project because you are a big fan of this universe. And I am a big fan so I will consider it based on that.

That is the real reason why I supported it. With so many of the real creators of the universe working on this project, I felt no problem at all sending them some real support. I mean, I think I own at least 100 books spanning at least 3 different time periods in the universe, and almost all the PC games that were released (only one I believe I am missing is/was the Solaris 7 game). Hell, even my screenname is an ode to Battletech lore (the Kell's play a prominent role in the verse).

So I'm not so big a fan as to know about these books. Any of them you might recommend I check out? And these books are like an actual story with characters and a plot line revolving around piloting mechs?

^^^^ This

He really WAS the book universe, especially in terms of characters, plots, and major events. The book line really was just a way to introduce more background for the tabletop game at first, but really came into its own with the Clan invasion (which is also about the time that I believe Michael started writing books for the universe).

One thing that you will note in the books is that there are a lot of re-hashing the technology (i.e. you can probably find the exact same 3 lines about PPCs, Jumpships, etc., in just about every book since they took the stance that you were an idiot and had never read a previous book, tech readout/manual, played the tabletop game, or any of the later video games before, so they all gave the same spiel every time they brought up a term for the first time in every book).
