Agreed. I need to know if I need to start hero worshiping right now.

Back in Earthsiege days I was just a QA tester. During tribes I was working in the art department. I did textures and some UI work for tribes. Back in high school we happened to live across the street from Jeff and he showed us some of the stuff they were working on since my brother and I were into video games. Once I got in college, I hit him up to see if I could get into the industry and worked QA a couple years before moving into the art department and eventually becoming an animator specializing in motion capture.

Before going into my responses with to others...

Are they going to use the standard armour points system such that a single shot to the head with an AC/20 or a Gauss Rifle would decapitate the mech and likely kill the pilot? If so, I hope there isn't a pilot permadeath situation in the multiplayer environment if they add skill levels for them. SP, not so bad.

The Unseen? I thought most of MWO's redesign stuff was just to make it more "modern" (I was/am a fan of their work). Too bad it's a fracking P2W cash grab and they threw out a perfectly good core game/rules set for...whatever the hell they're using now :'(

I still want the original MW5 :'(

GOD MWO still makes me so upset.

Same. That being said, this team is awesome and I just game across my old TR3050, so...backed :p

MWO's redesign in many areas was alright. I did like the Atlas and Hunchback. Catapults looked good and I cannot complain too much in many regards... but they absolutely ruined the Centurion turning it into some sort of Cylon and a few others didn't turn out so good.

Yes, MW5 looked simply amazing and when you compare it to MWO it makes me sad too.

I'd have rather seen something like 3029 or 3030 where you'd most likely have matches with standard tech but once in maybe 100 mechs there'd be a single item of Lostech. Remove DHS from the equation, any one or even two items of Lostech found in a single lance wouldn't tip the scales too much especially when you consider the double edged sword of the ER PPC (range vs heat) or that Gauss Rifle ammo should be supremely rare or expensive forcing players to be even more conservative than ever considered in other games before.

That could of beena copyright issue. Some of the designs in battletech were licensed from manga stuff.

Not a copyright issue. Just a "We'll redesign these classic and iconic models because it's modern and hip to do so" issue.

They had the power to use everything except the small part which was an issue, ie. the unseen, and could have used the originals and reseen but decided on a redesign.

They slaughtered the Cylon... I mean, Centurion.

Inspired me to fire up MW4:Mercs and it was delightful. It has been years... but now having a joystick, I can see why people swear by them. Fun AND immersive.

I had really high hopes for Mechwarrior Online, and I was a founding contributer. But then after release the devs got greedy and the game went downhill.

Not sure I want to fund this one. I am a huge MW fan, but not sure this one will turn out to be any good either :/

I'm not sure yet either, but I will say that the previous games they've done like this have been very well received, if that's a factor for you. Some of the folks I know that backed Golem Arcana are saying they deliver the goods. So I'm strongly considering backing.

Shadowrun was done really, really well. One of my fav games this year. So them + BT = backed.

Still PO'd at MWO :-/

I was a Founder... :'(

Same. I also sank additional money into the game at start. Taking a two week vacation and coming back helped me realize the extent of how much of a cash grab it was. This was on top of all the BS balancing issues as a result of them throwing out BT rules.

Yeah I too was a MWO founder and realized my folly in time to get a refund.

Saw this game and told my self I'd wait... went back again.. and again... argh, ended up going for the $50 option to get beta access. This is (well, should be) basically the game I've dreamed of for 20 years.

By confessing that you have beta access you are now duty bound and honour bound to provide us with regular beta updates via this forum post... unless they NDA you :p

Woo! Insider information :D

I had fun playing Crescent Hawk's Inception last century so I'll probably like this too
Man, I loved that game. I think I'm going to look for it to play again. Maybe GOG has it...
If this turns out to be anything similar to Crescent Hawk's Inception I'll be happy.

Backed. I haven't played any of the older turn based ones. I have played Mechwarrior games and the RTS version.

Perhaps somewhere like Home of the Underdogs could lead you to it?

I'm sure searching the net would reveal some information on it pretty quickly.

The game funded today, well over the $2.5M level needed to deliver multiplayer PVP.

Looks decent and does not look like they are overreaching.

So this game is not free2play right? This is a game you pay full price and then just play?

Very glad they surpassed the $2.5m mark on Kickstarter alone, not counting the $60k+ they gathered via PayPal.

Sure, it sounded sorta fun before that but PvP Multiplayer? The whole reason that Battletech was brought to light :)

For me, I'd be happier if they introduced Company level control as opposed to simple Lance for 12 mechs vs. 4... more MC/WoT/MWO-like with the numbers but as I'm a 6-8 man Xenonauts/X-COM guy I can't complain as 4 will probably be just as happy.

3025 is not really my favoured time period. Something like 3039 where there was a small smattering of Lostech going around the universe, not much to make it onesided against post-succession wars trash but just enough extra equipment to make you scratch your head and ponder what to add and where. Fine, DHS are a touchy subject but Gauss rifles? UAC's? AMS? Guardian/Beagle/Angel? So many fun toys lacking in the 3025 universe though it's a blessing that we're pre-3049/3050 where we'd expect to see Clans (yet again).

I'm not sure if special munitions were available for autocannons as of 3025. The famed LB-X was Lostech but special munitions? No idea.

Armour is a point that has me interested and concerned. I do hope that they use the simple Battletech armour system rather than doubling all armour as they did in MWO. 9 points of head armour plus 3 internals with a PPC damage of 10...

Yeah, I likes me some Battletech even though I was too young to play the pen and paper variety. Not overly hyped about this after the MWO and MWT issues but at least it greases wheels and illicits conversation.

I'm super happy it got pvp too. I'm hoping for asynchronous so you can play a game with a buddy and just submit turns when you have time.

From what I've read in the comments there will be limited amounts of lostech. Not like it didn't exist in 3025, just very rare. Also 12vs12 is still a possibility, but unlikely in the initial relase.

Armor I don't see changing a ton. Its a turn based tactical game, so no need to go playing with the armor system to compensate for player aim. They haven't promised slavish adherence to BT rules, but I expect way closer than MWO.

HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS EARLIER?!!? WHY WAS I NOT NOTIFIED?? I blame each and every one of you!

Joking aside I now have to read about if I can still back it or not and if there is even a legitimate incentive and reason to want to back it now rather than just buy the game when it comes out in ~2 years.

MechWarrior Online is fun, though the extra content is SEVERELY overpriced at HUNDREDS of dollars to get the extras, clearly geared at the individuals who are the easily addicted types who have no sense or care for value.

My fav game was MechWarrior 4 and the original MechWarrior for the SNES system which was the first one I played. I also played MechCommander 1 which was very different as it's not a FPS/sim like the others but I also really enjoyed it. This kickstarter game looks like it's aimed at doing another MechCommander.

Yes, Mechcommander is much more like what this game is (since this game is attempting to be more of a direct port of the physical tabletop game to the computer and Mechcommander was the closest to the tabletop game).
