Haven't heard of Overwatch?

Battlefield ahs been the go to game for my fiends and I to play together. Though not the release cycle seems too fast. I would really like another take on 2142. Loved the Titan game mode.

Overwatch is not an arena shooter. Arena shooters have no class based systems or hero abilities. I tried it during one of the free weekends a while back and couldn’t play it very long. It felt ok, just not really my cup of tea I guess.

I tried that LawBreakers game for like a day before everyone decided it wasn't that great.

I really wish they'd concoct another UT game, UT2004 is still one my all-time favorite arena shooters. UT3 was good but it never had the user base that '03/'04 had. There are a couple of free-to-play arena shooters on Steam that I wanted to try but never did.

arena shooter > battle royale btw

They tried another UT but Epic gave up on it and it basically fell flat on its face. I believe it was actually created by the community itself or something like that too.

I suppose the rise of tactical and realistic (and boring) shooters is likely part of the reason it lost steam. That makes Overwatch even more of a success on Blizzard's part. They took the arena concept and augmented it to make it their own; others attempted to cash in on the same idea but, from what I gather, none are even close to being as popular.

I never bothered with Battlefront games. Were they the same studios as Battlefield or just the same engine?

What didn't you like about BF1? I was really turned off by the era, but once I said fuck it and started playing, the gameplay is just too good and polished. I don't think it feels like a COD game at all, it just feels better. And map sizes. Big deal to me.
Dice does both Battlefield and Battlefront.

It's the movement more than anything. Starting with BF3/4 there was a distinct change in how fast payers moved and how they moved, especially in relation to momentum and turning. That's where it became more CoD like than any other change. Go back and play bf2/bc2 and you can't just instantly change direction and continue moving at full speed like you can now. There's no deceleration when you pivot and change direction like there used to be. It feels more like you are floating than boots pounding on the ground while running. Changes like that had a domino effect of changing how people interact in gunfights. Now people grab an automatico and circle strafe each other. It's CoD with large maps and player counts. It's a twitch based shooter instead of a tactical shooter like older battlefield games. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not what I want from a Battlefield game. I used to love conquest mode but the most fun in BF1 for me is TDM with a shotgun or auto because the game mechanics support that mode of play far better than large scale warfare. I want Battlefield to make me feel like I'm in a massive conflict. I want my feet deep in the mud of the trenches. Currently it feels like I'm a coked out jackrabbit bouncing around.

While I agree with you in that OW and TF2 are really close to the same game they aren't even close in popularity. TF2's all time peak is roughly 120k and while we don't have hard numbers for OW most estimates put it's peak in the millions and average concurrent at over 500k. Hell, there's massively more people just watching the OW League games than playing TF2. But that is what Blizzard is the best at - taking an idea, polishing it beyond belief and then marketing it incredibly well.

I'm excited. Maybe a little optimistic for once. I really liked BF4, and didn't really like how the direction they took with BF1. No, not because it isn't modern, but because it felt more toon-ish than realistic. So now my pessimistic side is coming out again by saying BFV will be based off the new engine (which is really meant for the god awful battlefront game), and will likely just be as much toon-ish as BF1.

The last awesome battlefield game was 2 and Bad Company 2 was fantastic as well. 3, 4 and 1 I disliked. I own them all but regret buying 3, 4 and 1 so I will skip 5 for sure. I'm done giving them my money for this shit.

If you like BF2, but you're okay with no unlocks/ranking I suggest you look in to Squad first and foremost, then Post Scriptum and Hell let Loose.

Squad is by far the most Battlefield 2 FPS you'll play now besides BF2

Squad looks interesting but it's $45 for a buggy alpha and lord knows how many servers I'll be able to choose from. not promising

No offense, but you're obviously speaking from ignorance.

It's $39 in the states on steam. Tons of servers. Wait queues to join. It's a very popular game. The sound design is absolutely amazing. I remember thinking BC2's "war tapes" sound option was amazing. Getting mortared is VERY immersive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kl_aD0Aqb0

While it is an alpha, it's not a broken alpha and is mostly just missing (a shrinking) list of content that is to be added.

I looked it up on steam. It's 40 bucks for the alpha or 44 bucks for the game plus its soundtrack. I also can't see how many english speaking servers there are available at any given time with nearly full populations that i can tell. the one thing with a bf game is you know you are going to get servers to play all your favorite maps on.

i'm down to try a slower paced FPS game, but some people say you have to wait minutes to respawn. not a strategic way to utilize my gaming time.

Grab it on a steam sale then, it regularly goes down to $29.

Minutes to respawn is pushing it. The player dropped spawn points increase in time if there is enemy ontop of them. Otherwise it's maybe 30-45 sec max to respawn once you die if you aren't revived by a medic. The timer counts down the instant you get incapacitated so you can choose to either give up and die and wait at the spawn screen, or wait for a medic while the timer to respawn clocks down and give up at any point during that.

I've been playing for over 2 years now I beleve. They've improved a lot since I first started playing. It's definitely not as slow paced as ARMA , but isn't as fast paced as COD/BF are.

War tapes was crap audio. It compressed the dynamic range so really loud audio was limited and really quiet sounds were boosted. This is why it sounds louder. Setting battlefield to hi-fi has a much wider range between quiet and loud so during a quiet moment the proper equipment can really make the explosions and gunfire stand out because the difference between the loud and quiet sounds is much greater.

Agreed. I miss the feeling that everything had gravity. BF1 felt like I was on roller skates and shooting at objects moving just the same.

The inclusiveness, feminist, and revisionist slant needs to end. And the whole Michael Bay action sequence was mind numbingly stupid. Because all those things just happen at once in the same spot..................sure DICE..........

I missed that part. I'm on where they are saying no more premium pass. I can't decide if that means I get less content overall if I was willing to spend that money anyway, or if I'm really just getting a sick deal.

Well -- ...still can't say anything yet. It was what I was expecting. It is a re skinned battlefront with different skins.

It means maps are now only found in loot boxes...

Why is there a chick with a hook arm in the trailer wtf

Social justice. Historical accuracy be damned! I mean, DICE is in Sweden. Shouldn't be a big surprise. They certainly didn't expect the huge number of dislikes on the Youtube trailer though. It's worse than CoD: Infinity Warfare.
