I have COD4, COD :WaW, and BFBC2. Before today, I had never finished the single player side of any of them.
The other day I had 30-40 minutes to spare, not necessarily enough for a round of multiplayer, so I thought I would check out some BFBC2 single player, at least to see more maps they could bring over for multiplayer.
First off, I don't remember the default FOV being that bad, but it is horrible! Everything seemed to be right in my face! I wanted to keep backing up.
A lot of the maps are horribly linear, but beautiful, nonetheless. The action was varied, the difficulty about right, maybe a little too easy in some parts (I played on the middle difficulty). The worst thing to me is the invulnerability of your squad mates, it just ruins the immersion. But, I pushed on, it was still fun. I played a few hours a day over the last several days and finished it today. The ending seemed a little abrupt, probably because I played right through the last part without dying. It should have gotten more difficult towards the end, but no.
I don't usually play "story games", so I can't tell you what the state of the art is for writing in a videogame. My expectations are not that high. I thought it was an OK story line. At least it made some sense, I could follow what was going on, there was sense of natural progression. ATM, I can't recall if there was any ongoing story in the COD games I played, that tied the individual missions together. So, credit to BFBC2.
I can see myself going through it again at higher difficulty. Some parts I whizzed right though, and feel like some of the fun got left behind. I can think of it as practice for Onslaught mode!
