Has anyone tried messing with the in game brightness and contrast settings to see if they can get the same IQ?

It really does look like upping the contrast will go a long way towards fixing the look of mantle. I will test it out later when I get home from work. Until then I will be dreaming of my 46fps higher minimums with mantle. I plan on looking into removing my frame rate cap to see how much higher my minimums actually are on siege of shanghai. That section of the map where the domination flags are is absolutely a performance killer on dx11.

Any AMD insider know when we're going to get a not completely worthless driver for this?

I'm not sure what driver you are referring to, but Vulgar's experience would seem to indicate the driver is fine and that Dice is fixing issues on their end.

I'll take that as an official AMD/ATi insider saying they're never going to fix the issue(s).

Question answered.

I realize you wanted a vacation for the holiday weekend, but there are easier ways to go about it.

This new thread is about mantle performance post 2/13/2014 game patch. If you want to gripe about amd there is already a thread about the 14.1 drivers that you can by all means get locked with your unproductive posting.

If you decide to try out the 14.1 drivers post patch and share your experience come back here.

Mantle driver is still a beta and experimental driver, made to let the people test Mantle and to serve as a way to detect issues for to be fixed with the WHQL driver.
BF4 MP issues are Dice team fault.

Side-by-side comparison in 1 pic, wow:

left: mantle right: DX11
mantle-dx11.png

DX: the green on the bushes/trees are more vibrant, building walls are brighter, sky is bluer (obviously you can see that), weapon looks more realistic.

Mantle: less draw distance, leaves are jagged on bushes/trees, textures stand out a bit more, AA doesn't seem to work(?).

I get a constant 120 fps with a single 280x on D3D... Am I missing something here?

What processor are you running and what settings?

Not saying I don't believe you, but I don't believe you ALWAYS get 120fps constant. Even on low settings there are areas in certain maps that cause my framerate to get cut in half on dx11.

I'm on windows 7 so maybe that is an issue?

The Mantle screenshots actually look closer to real life... DX11 screenshots look to be oversaturated colors.

ive not had a single random FPS drop anymore but i dont think i really gained any performance, about the fog DICE said they have a fix for it but its not in this patch lol

Not to undercut your effort, but side by side comparisons like that are of little benefit without a slider..

You need to see the entire screenshot with each API so you can see the full range of the differences.

still get occasional dips in fps <17 due to cpu spikes, not often maybe 3-4 times a around lasting 10 seconds in duration in multiplayer.

14.1 7970 crossfire i5 2500k @ 4.4ghz

perfoverlay show cpu spikes

hope they continue to improve mantle

I have not seen this behavior do you have anything running in the background using your cpu?

No, I'm on windows 7 as well. I have my 280x only over locked 10% because after I hit 1511,She locks up. In my bf4 settings I have most everything on ultra but motion blur an occlusion is disabled and any post processing aa disabled.

I really don't see advantages with the crap enabled that I disabled. When these 14.1 drivers end up whql, then perhaps my luck at crossfire in BF4 will be granted.

280x isn't a bad card, but mantle compatible? I honestly think it's not going to get any love as this thing evolves.

Asrock z77 oc formula

Sammy 840 Pro
Dual 280x 10% OC and Xfire disabled bf4

As I posted in another thread there aren't options to mess with contrast and gamma in the in game settings so I was unable to try and match dx11 output in mantle.

As others have said, I think Mantle actually looks like it more accurately represents real life colors while DX11 looks overly saturated.

Gamma is presumably a standard option of DX, one of those features that clearly Mantle doesn't provide. Why would it? Its not something the GPUs directly do in hardware per say, its a higher level feature provided by the API.

It could explain the big difference, but while such a difference remains its hard not possible to say that the images are equivalent and hence that the performance results are comparable.

It is a shame the IQ difference is still high. Draw distance, fog, gamma etc. Obviously not as easy to fix, or the performance impact is too great 😉
