Yep, between that and the web Browser BS....I'm pretty frustrated.

I don't get the annoyance with the web browser, I think its revolutionary. What is the problem?

Everything I've done in battlelog so far has been flawless, its cake to join games with friends, or as a group, VOIP works fine, all the stats you can get are great, you can leave notes and stuff, the server browser is flawless and responds WAY better than an IN GAME server browser ever did....

Whats the problem?

Yeah... I actually kinda like the web broswer too. I had some problems with it in Beta... but it seems to be working flawlessly for me now (and that's fine as it as beta).

Yeah I don't mind it at all actually I kind of like the browser, as it's much quicker and I don't even have to load the game to find a server I want to join.

Oh sure, yeah in Beta it had tons of issues, but the potential was clearly there.. now with the official release it is fantastic! Its never been easier to find a game join with your friends or whatever.

They even have a cool little feedback system where you can post complaints or what not.

Have you tried turning everything down to low? Then if that doesn't help, then lower the res as well.

I played it with my GTX 460 and E8400 just fine... It had it's moments where it would slow down, but it was definitely playable. Are you sure your system is stable otherwise?

Running on rig in my sig.....I am looking for answers as to which settings are the biggest VRAM eaters. I play at 19x10 and there is enough GPU power to play the game on high/ultra settings but not enough vram on my 260's. On most levels its hitting the vram limit but for example on the level uprising early in the game performance was good on ultra - 50-70 fps and the vram on that level was around 700MB. What settings can i tweek to save on vram but still have the highest image quality?

well i uninstalled my AV, turned off automatic defragging, ran ccleaner and have noticed a bit of improvement. but it still stutters very frequently and gets to be unplayable for like 10 secs or so every so often. i think my computer is stable, i played bad company 2 right after with everything on high and 4x AA and it ran pretty much 60 fps as usual...

oh and i did turn everything on low, everything, and overall fps improved but it was still stuttering. i ran msi afterburner while playing and it seemed like my gpu usage hovered around 55-60% on average.

It's working with 4x AA & essentially everything on medium with my vanilla GTX260. It looked pretty good too.

Clearly it's a CPU subsystem issue, not a GPU issue. You should be at 95-99% GPU usage in this game. Have you run a CPU meter to see what your CPU looks like? I'd assume it's pegged at 99%, just as my e8400 would be in BC2 while my GTX460 sat around 75%.

Whether that would cause stuttering is another issue entirely, though...it doesn't sound like you're actually talking about seriously low frame rates or sudden drops in GPU usage (that would also appear as a stutter). How about your memory? First of all, 4GB is the absolute minimum - I use over 4GB when playing BF3. Also, your settings may not be stable. Just a hunch, but maybe try setting your memory to default timings if you aren't there already.

Did you read that post? That's the release running on my rig unless I am hallucinating all this while.

The post itself gives no indication...but it was posted yesterday, so sure, it's the release build. Regardless, oh noes! A comparison of two screenshots proves high isn't that different from ultra!

Thanks, but I'll wait until there are thorough screenshot comparisons done.

Hardly seems worth the super high priced GTX580.
From [H]'s gameplay review...
154ttv9.png

Looking at single-GPU performance we find the GeForce GTX 580 and Radeon HD 6970 to match exactly for performance. There doesn't seem to be any perceptible differences between the two video cards in terms of performance. We also experienced no stuttering, and completely smooth gameplay on both AMD and NVIDIA video cards. Keep in mind, the Radeon HD 6970 is still much less expensive than GeForce GTX 580, so you get the same performance as GTX 580 for a much lower price in BF3.

I would suspect those people with 1000$ monitors to have 2 cards, since those fps are not playable.

"In our testing so far, we have found some stark differences between SLI and CrossFireX gameplay, at least in this first mission of BF3. While the above graph shows similar performance between GTX 580 SLI and HD 6970 CFX, the graph does not reveal a gameplay distraction we experienced with Radeon HD 6970 CFX. This distractionsdid not appear with GTX 580 SLI, or single-GPU video cards.

We experienced stuttering and jerky behavior with Radeon HD 6970 CrossFireX. I wouldn't say that it is "MicroStutter," it is outright "stutter" or a "jerky" feeling as you play. As you move through the map you can see and feel that it is not smooth, not consistent, and you can visually see this as you are walking. There is a lot of straight line walking during the first few minutes of the map, and it is very easy to identify and breaks the immersion of the gameplay. We started with the GTX 580 SLI and experienced smooth gameplay, and then when we installed HD 6970 CFX to compare performance the constantly laggy experience was immediately noticeable.

The jarring behavior is so bad that it is distracting to gameplay, and is not a configuration I would use if I were playing BF3. After having used both GTX 580 SLI and 6970 CFX in this first mission, I can easily say GTX 580 SLI is the better experience and what I would use when playing. AMD has a lot of work to do with CrossFireX, while the performance is there, the smoothness and consistency is not even closely competitive with SLI configurations. Now, it could be a simple in-game graphics option that is causing the issue, but it is something we will have to look at closer as we play the game more.

Have you tried uninstalling cap3 and installing cap4?

No, but I will soon here.

I think it might have something to do with controls too. Anybody play support class alot. The bipod aiming mechanic seems really slow/kludgy even with 51+ fps. In any other game 51fps min is like liquid gold, I can't understand why its not here. Most likely ATI will clear it up.

I'm getting used to it. I am LOVING this game. SO much fun. I also like the web interface for the browser. I think its great. I can sort. Bookmark. My old ISP would be happy about not having to ping spam the world. For one of the big games lead developed on PC I think performance and optimization out of the gate is nigh incredible. I'm so used to Crysis and Metro 2033 and that sorta dogpoo.

Problem is I was never using Cap3 unless its bundled in 11.10 Preview 3. I'll update to Cap 4 tomorrow.
That SLI/Xfire scaling show at [H] is INSANE. Awesome work. A second card is completely worth it.

edit. looks like that cap4 is unofficial? rage3d gets CAP's early?

[H] performance preview. There were a few instances where frame rates would drop significantly but this usually only happened near fires.
lol. yeah.

You forgot to add:

"Update On Stuttering - Fix Available

Concerning the CrossFireX stuttering mentioned above, AMD has informed us that the 11.9 CAP 3 that was recommended to install for BF3 is actually the culprit for the stuttering behavior with CFX in this game. AMD recommends to uninstall the CAP and only install Catalyst 11.10 Preview 3 driver. If you already have the CAP installed, your best bet is to uninstall the CAP as well as the driver, and re-install just the driver with no CAP. We have tested this by removing the CAP, and on our system the stuttering with 6970 CFX is gone. We experienced no negative impact to performance in the game by removing the CAP. The gameplay experience is much better with the CAP uninstalled.

"One note – about the stuttering for CFX, the latest CAP is causing that, once you remove it, you should be fine…we’re on it and fixing it as we speak." -AMD"

And SLI/CF scaling is excellent, including the MIN fps as well which is important in a FPS. NV has a slight edge.

The beta doesn't even have singleplayer. First you made up stories out of thin air about ultra not being ultra in the beta. Then when you realize you are wrong, you gave me a thumbs down because I even bothered to post a comparison? Great to have you posting here otherwise the forum will be a dull place. I will give you a thumbs up to keep up the good work.

<snip> Not to mention the browser doesn't even work with the latest version of Firefox. It barely works with IE9....

**EDIT**

I apologize for the rant, it seems punkbuster kicked me out for some reason twice. So it comes down to one crash, and two punkbuster kicks. *sigh*
