I'll have to go with BF2142, while I'm not exactly a big EA fan, at least they give you a working disc. With Valve you have to register, sign up, create a steam account, and download the rest of the game. I don't want any part of a Big Brother gaming account scheme just to play a stupid game.

Steam is actually very stable, and Valve does a good job of providing free content updates and bug fixes.

Plus, I never have to worry about not having the latest game update.

... or if you lose the game, CD key, scratch the disk, etc.

I'm not saying Steam is perfect, and its had its rough periods, but I can't think of much to complain about.

You can buy either game off the shelf or purchase/download it online.

If you buy the game off the shelf, you don't get working game; it's incomplete. You still need to create an account to download the rest of the game from Steam. You also can't legally trade, give away, or sell your game when your done with it.

Stardock owns them both. You get a working disc, plus the ability to download the game if you ever need to.

Much of the same can be said about EA games 😉

Yes that's true. Of course, I would dare say that any serious gamer has an internet connection. Most have broadband.

You can't sell your account legally, but nothing stops you from giving it away. But you're right, there is basically no resale value for a virtual game, because all the games you buy are locked to one account, so you'd have to sell your entire account at once.

Sounds interesting... but yeah, I'm not a fan of every publishing company having their own distribution system.

I like Steam because it works and is convenient for me. I can buy the games I want the minute they are released, and all the updates are downloaded and installed automatically.

Are we talking about Valve still or EA?

I kid, I kid 😉

LOL I made the same comment heh.

Amazon.com is selling HL2: CSS for $33.98 with free shipping. Is this is a good price for the Game of the Year edition?

link

It contains the originial HL too in Source. I have seen this game most retail at around $39.99.

seems like a good price since its shipped for free. I'd jump on it since it's probably the cheapest you will get it new.

I really enjoy CSS and Battlefield 2. I am not interested in 2142 as I dont like futuristic type combat. HL2 and CSS also gets the nod because you can get a package containing at least 4 games for the price of BF 2142. Also, while the mod community for Battlefield is good, it cant compare to the HL/HL2 community. I have several gigs of free games, total conversions, and mods for HL2 both single and multiplayer.

EA's BF 2142 is more like 'Big Brother' for the fact that you don't know when they're examining your computer and what they're looking at. With Valve, you can shut down Steam easily and they don't take up CPU cycles while you're gaming. With BF 2142, I don't think the process is so easy and you're under constant monitorization.

I already own Half-Life 2(since release) and I have no intention of buying any EA games because of their exploit/spy/bloat/bugware
