Battlefield 2142 or Half-Life 2 - CS:S?

Lets say that both of these games came out on the same day, which one would you buy?

I have not played HL2, let alone CS:S and I have always been curious as to how it is. I bought Battlefield 2 right when it came out and rarely play it. However, the weird thing is that I still play Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer a lot

For some reason, RTCW's engine and the game seems more personal to me. Add in classic maps such as Beach, and I love it.

So for a person who enjoys games like RTCW, which would be better? Battlefield 2142 or Half-Life 2 - CS:S?

HL2-CS:S because you get 2 games thats great for half the price 2142 will cost. I've seen some steam accounts(although its not allowed) sell for $10-$15 bucks on here and other forums. Which include both HL2 and CS:S. I picked my bro up a account for $10 once. I ain't gonna say 2142 will be bad but if the gameplay/balance is anything like BF2 it's gonna suck(IMO anyway).

I bought BF2 twice over the past year and really tried to get into it but never could. Both times I bought it I only gave $15 for it shipped 😀 and turned around and sold them for $25 shipped 🙂.

Been awhile since I looked at the packages valve offers but isn't it

HL2+CS:S+HL2😀M as one package or
CS:S+DoD:S+HL2😀M as another

If you like RTCW then you'll like the Half Life series games more than Battlefield series. In paticular I'd recommend Day of Defeat: Source which plays similar to CS but with a bit more tactics, i.e. flag captures and defends.

If you didn't like BF2 that much why 2142? Its the same thing... Get HL2 + CSS and get the Cinimatic mod to make it even prettier.

Half Life 2 is probably the best single player FPS out there, even if it's starting to look a little dated these days. And CS:S is one of the online shooters with the biggest player base and not as many bugs as the EA shooters.

2142 runs the risk of being as buggy as BF2 was, and EA is likely to abandon it completely as soon as their next cash cow is released a year from now.

Guessing you two ain't FPS'er fans or not gamers at all? Anyone who likes FPS'ers and doesn't agree HL2 and CS:S are at least worth getting or playing through once(HL2) ain't much of a fan.

Gotta agree with you there... to any FPS fan, HL2 is certainly worth a play-through at least once.

I love FPS, as well as other genres, but HL2 did nothing for me. I thought it was mediocre at best. I really liked CoD and CoD2 for SP. Haven't found anything to replace SoF2 for MP yet. CoD2 comes close but doesn't quite hit it.

CS doesn't do anything for me either.

Yes it is... great memories. I loved the shotgun so much in that game.

My online FPS journey was CS -> SOF2 -> CS:S.

My vote is definitely HL2. It is a classic and cannot be missed. BF2142, however, looks like its going to be BF2 all over again, so in that case I wouldn't be worried about getting it, especially right after its released... Just like BF2 its going to have a lot of bugs.

Mine was pretty similar:

CS -> SoF2 -> UT2003 -> Rainbow Six 3: Ravenshield -> UT2004 -> CS:S

I don't typically play a game online unless it *really* captivates me, and then I get pretty damn gung-ho about it. I could technically put BF2 up there, but it pissed me off too much to really log any meaningful time on it.

I'll have to go with BF2142, while I'm not exactly a big EA fan, at least they give you a working disc. With Valve you have to register, sign up, create a steam account, and download the rest of the game. I don't want any part of a Big Brother gaming account scheme just to play a stupid game.
