Battlefield 2142 demo on Friday, 10/6.....

Demo will be hitting today, Friday, October 6th. I'll check it out for pure curiosity, but after the mess that was Battlefield 2, not sure I'll touch this one at retail (and no, I won't steal it either, I just won't play it). I'm tired of giving game companies my money for crappy code.

We'll see. Consider this a heads-up for those who haven't heard.
 
Here's my mini-preview w/pics on SimHQ.

I think it's going to be good, the demo doesn't give you much of an idea on power-ups though, since they're all disabled. But you do get a good idea of the vehicles and the game play. The graphics are nearly identical to BF2 with new visual effects (blasts, explosions, etc.).
 
I'll definately be checking out the demo. Then I'll patiently wait to hear the news of the full version having tons of bugs and not being playable. In the offchance that it might actually work correctly, it'd be nice to see if it's any good beforehand 🙂.

This wasn't developed by Dice Canada I don't think, it's coming from Dice Sweden which did BF2.

From only playing it a few hours I can say it feels just like BF2, at least in game-play. Anyone wanting extreme realism will probably be put off. I'm also fairly sure that if you had issues running BF2 well you'll have issues with this, it's the same engine and everything.

The game browser did get a nice overhaul though and it's pretty smooth compaired to BF2. There's only 45 or so servers being refreshed right now so that's not much of a stress test.

As with anything... try the demo before you buy if you're unsure. Especially if you had issues with BF2 running well.
 
i'll play the demo, but not buy the game... BF2 was good for a little, but not that good. and dear god, the menu better be fixed. i will murder EA if it isnt quick.
 
Cool, thanks for the info 43st! I can't wait to try this out, I really enjoy BF2. Any idea on the size of the demo file?

Ok. Not too shabby. I usually get good speeds from FileFront.
 
Damn, just played it and wow does it lag. I have a amd 3200+ 2gb ram and a x1900xt. I was getting 15fps average on the titan. That was all on high, I turned to medium and it bumped me up 15fps. Still 30fps for medium on a X1900XT is ridiculous.
 
I'll give the demo a whirl, but I won't buy the game until they put out the first patch. If the patch is good I might consider it, if the patch is anything like BF2, I'll pass
