Can someone explain why im only downloading at 40kbs when I have a 8mg cable connection? I have my port open and everything. This download should have been done a long time ago.

Because the server you're downloading from isn't plugged directly into the other side of your connection.

Given how badly they screwed up the balance of air vs. ground in the last two installments, I can't wait to see what new levels of incompetence they can achieve in a game with titans and mechs and god knows what else. Planetside, anyone?

Of course, I'll be buying it.

The air vehicles are like blackhawks before they were nerfed...I was in a 'black hawk' squad right now and we polverized. I got the gold as 1st gunner, 2nd gunner got silver, driver got bronze! lol
The game looks noticeably nicer than BF2 -- mostly because of improved textures.
I'm running it 6xAA 16xHQAF 1680x1050 @ 60 fps constant...

Only reason I'm here is cos the game...crashed : Dum, dum, dum! :

Ah, a game that encourages spawn camping with no hope of retaliation.

Now THAT is great gameplay if I've ever heard of it!

Try that crap in Quake Wars and see how long your railgun trail lets you get away with it.
It still takes skill to get that good camping spot and make the long range shot but you're gonna have to relocate quick.

how would you know? have you been playing quake wars recently? last time i checked it's not out. uber beta tester? i was excited about this game a long time ago when it was announced, but i haven't heard much about it lately.

oh, and the point of sniping is to not be seen. leaving a "railgun trail" isn't really sniping, it's just shooting someone with a scoped gun.

quake wars is making progress and is scheduled for a feb 07 release. i think it has much more to offer thna BF because it has concrete objectives, as opposed to tickets/titans, as well as asymmetric sides with UNIQUE vehicles/units. it'll probably look better due to megatextures too;)

has anyone actually played it tho? people seem to know all about it, just curious how many are just spouting off at the mouth as opposed to people who might be in a beta or something.

I can't get it to run for more than thirty seconds, so it's a pretty normal EA game. Screwed around trying to get it to work for a bit then uninstalled it.

it runs fine, try using the directx web installer to update your dx9 files, that seems to be the most common fix for problems with the game.

Is it just me or does this run a lot better on 1 Gig of memory than Bf2 did? I had textures on high and no pauses and stutters! Maybe they cherry picked the map for the demo that runs good with only 1 Gig.(Less texture extreme than other maps in retail copy of game).

Boo, to no offline mode. I don't particularly feel like registering with EA just to see some eye candy (I have no interest in this game beyond it's graphics).

yea just like the BF2 until the patched the hell out of it. hopefully they will do it on the final release. and like said above, aiming does suck. i didnt play for that long, only about 45min but aiming with the assault rifle and it was hard to shoot even on single fire

Now, my X800XL isn't that great anymore, but running at 1280x960 @ Medium settings, I didn't expect the framerate to suddenly plummet to 15-25fps just because there's smoke in the air or if I look at a titan. -_-

no its not you, on my rig its playing very nicely on 512mb ram :Q im pretty much playing maxed with medium on lighting, 1024x768 no aa and im getting around 35fps with a 6800xt. i couldn't even play on medium 1280x1024 with 512mb on bf2. like someone said above..something doesn't seem right. doesn't really feel like a battlefield:confused:..could be the map

Possibly. I've been playing PC games for years, so I can deal with most bugs. But this one is hitting a new low.

First, its a zip file download. So I have to make an extra gig of space on my drive, just to extract the installer, which is already compressed, just to install the game, which needed at least another 1 gig of temporary space. Strike #1

Then I try and run it, and crash cause of Direct X. Which I figured out by coming here. I can imagine that 50% of people who downloaded it have already given up at this point. Strike #2

Then I have to sit through their damn intro movies, which is annoying, even if not a bug. Then I am forced to create an account, while the interface is barely responsive. Scrollbars and checkboxes don't even work. Finally get an account created. Annoying.

Try to log on. After 2 minutes, which I assumed was a crash, it finally gets through. Irritating.

I try and change video options. No option for 1280x1024, arguably the most important native res. Have to look up the mod to hack it. REALLY annoying. Strike #3

I reload the game, tweak the options, and get told it would have to redo the shaders. Nothing I'm not used to from BF2. So I look up a server, get into a game, and it takes 5 MINUTES to load the map due to the shaders, on my more than decent system. In fact, it took so long, that the server had already moved onto the next map, which ironically, is the SAME MAP. Reloads again...finally gets to verifying client data. Woohoo...click done...I'm in!!.....or so I thought. As soon as I clicked done, I get informed I lost my connection to the master server. Unreal. Strike 4, 5 and 6.

I try to reconnect, no go. I figure I'll quit out of the game. Quitting out caused my system to crash, causing me to reboot for the first time in 2 weeks. Strike 7

I reload, finally go through all the crap, actually get into a game this time...walk around for a bit, realize I need sensitivity raised. I click esc to go the menu, and it starts refreshing servers again....the game appears to freeze. A minute later....lost connection to master server.

Are these people kidding me? This is the worst interface, most buggy game I've ever played in my entire life.
