That's freakin' weird. I've played it all day. Haven't had one single problem, apart from only one "connection lost to main server" thing.
There's been no errors what-so-ever, and the menu's, which used to suck in the old game, run perfectly, no bugs there either.
Weird..!

why doesnt EA just put a fvcking option for 1280*1024 in the game? 😕 they added it for BF2 in one of the later patches

probably because its the original bf2 game with differen textures and models, etc.

Possibly. I've been playing PC games for years, so I can deal with most bugs. But this one is hitting a new low.

First, its a zip file download. So I have to make an extra gig of space on my drive, just to extract the installer, which is already compressed, just to install the game, which needed at least another 1 gig of temporary space. Strike #1

Then I try and run it, and crash cause of Direct X. Which I figured out by coming here. I can imagine that 50% of people who downloaded it have already given up at this point. Strike #2

Then I have to sit through their damn intro movies, which is annoying, even if not a bug. Then I am forced to create an account, while the interface is barely responsive. Scrollbars and checkboxes don't even work. Finally get an account created. Annoying.

Try to log on. After 2 minutes, which I assumed was a crash, it finally gets through. Irritating.

I try and change video options. No option for 1280x1024, arguably the most important native res. Have to look up the mod to hack it. REALLY annoying. Strike #3

I reload the game, tweak the options, and get told it would have to redo the shaders. Nothing I'm not used to from BF2. So I look up a server, get into a game, and it takes 5 MINUTES to load the map due to the shaders, on my more than decent system. In fact, it took so long, that the server had already moved onto the next map, which ironically, is the SAME MAP. Reloads again...finally gets to verifying client data. Woohoo...click done...I'm in!!.....or so I thought. As soon as I clicked done, I get informed I lost my connection to the master server. Unreal. Strike 4, 5 and 6.

I try to reconnect, no go. I figure I'll quit out of the game. Quitting out caused my system to crash, causing me to reboot for the first time in 2 weeks. Strike 7

I reload, finally go through all the crap, actually get into a game this time...walk around for a bit, realize I need sensitivity raised. I click esc to go the menu, and it starts refreshing servers again....the game appears to freeze. A minute later....lost connection to master server.

Are these people kidding me? This is the worst interface, most buggy game I've ever played in my entire life.

most of these are user errors or unreasonable. the 1280x1024 thing is valid tho. the interface is improved over bf2 imho, but that's just me.

that's not an excuse at this point. they'd use the updated post-patch bf2 engine, which should have that resolution enabled already. the whole "widescreen is cheating" arguement is way past old, i finally uninstalled just about every EA game i have, because i'm tired of having to hack in widescreen support to games like generals or tiger woods. it's laziness, pure and simple.

The file needing double extraction is not a user error, its just stupidity.

The lack of inclusion of the necessary DX update is also not a user error, but shortsightedness on the part of the developers.

The scrollbars and checkboxes not working are just bugs.

The lack of any indication of whether or not it is connecting, or crashed, is bad design.

Having to wait 5 minutes after changing ANY graphics option is also terrible design.

Having the game quit on me, and then subsequently crash my otherwise stable system, is most definitely not user error, but a bug.

Having the game crash, when all I want to do is change the mouse sensitivity, is most definitely not a user error, and most definitely a bug.

Please explain to me where I went wrong.

And on top of that, the game is lag-ridden with more than 32 players, and the mechanics of the game are just absurd.

Even if it wasnt buggy, it'd still be crap. It's only notable because no one else has really tried to perfect the game yet. It plays like nothing more than a mod of bf2, and yet it manages to be 10 times less stable than that already buggy game.

Hopefully quake wars will come out soon.

It's not laziness. It's a calculated cost-cutting and time-saving measure, because EA games are meant to be churned out as fast as possible. There is no such thing is a polished, full featured, bug free EA game.

same here on Vista no less... just the master server losing connection

runs great cool game..

Yeh pretty happy with the interface and game itself. Still have to many connection problems as you play IMO. Makes my graphics card cry...

After playing the demo for about 2 hours, and getting 60+ fps, the lag was terrible on all 5 servers i played in, tried on 64, 32 and 16 player servers.
I will not be buying this game, what a waste of time. The initial menu interface is faster, but the design seems much worse than bf 1942 or 2.
The guns are cool but the lag bogged down anywhere i was trying to shoot, i could not hit anybody, even the 16 player servers where ****** laggy.

The game sucks balls, and i will not be buying it.
Crysis FTW

2142 is lame, world class lame. After getting around all the bugs and erros and getting it to run, we end up with a game that is even more unbalanced than BF2, and runs like $hit as well. The demo map is every bit as bad as the maps in AF, the game play drags, when your not getting camped to death by overpowered snipers.
On a ten scale, it doesn't get over a 4. No way I'll buy it, I might play it a little if they give it away free, though I doubt it.

Been playing for a few hours. I personally find it boring. Graphics aren't really improved at all. I don't see the point in playing this instead of BF2. It's a really cluttered game. You could be shooting at a person and if a tank and a few other people are shooting at it too it just looks like a mess on the screen. It might be better when you can get upgrades but right now, it's just plain boring.

I have it at 1600x1200 and it drops into the 40's at high settings on a x1900xt.

The demo clearly states that you need to upgrade dx, it's not included, and it provides a link to do so.

What I don't like is that it says my handle is taken, when it's not, and then errors out unless (as best I can figure) pick a handle with a number in it.

at least you hope so anyway? i wouldn't put anything past EA.

I got the game to run fine, well actually i had to update my directx but after that everything was fine....only got a few lost connections and slightly more lag the bf2 with the same settings....the server browser seems to work alot better than bf2 and the map seems to load faster for some reason.........

i played for a few hours and i got bored quick....bf2 seems like a 10 times better game......again they made the maps huge and it takes you forever to get somewhere.

all of those are user errors. the game is availible for download in formats other than zip. just because you chose a site that decided to download it in zip form is not EAs fault. after playing it last night and all day today i have yet to get a crash, and i've tried replicating your problems. and to top that i've been on a 48 man server, packed full, with no lag. i did have to lower my graphic settings a bit, apparently it's a bit heavier than bf2 was. all of the sites i checked clearly state you need to update dx9 and provide a link. i guess you need to upgrade your computer, dunno what else to tell you. until quake wars actually comes out and proves it's better, i guess you'll just have to keep waiting. 🙂

the game has issues, but you're nitpicking things that don't seem to be EA problems at all.

I'm getting the master server error non-stop and haven't been able to play for more then 10 minutes. Is there a work around for this? 🙂 I'm not quite sure why it would need to connect to that server during gameplay...

still the same style BF - not my thing. menu is slow (damn you EA). BUT - i was VERY impressed by the weapon sounds - IMO they absolutely NAILED weapon sounds🙂

It's not bad. It's a little confusing trying to see what's going on, I don't like the look of the map that much, but it's a fun game. I MIGHT buy it. So far I still like BF2 much better though

But, theyre really not user errors. My system is not in need of upgrade. I'm not the only one. The game runs now, for 10 minutes at a clip, before I lose connection to the master server. Crash to desktop periodically. Its not a hardware or connection problem, its just a damn buggy game. My PC is plenty fast, as is my internet connection. Any game/demo I've ever downloaded that needed a DX update came with it.

This is just a general trend with EA games. Come out buggy as hell, with little support afterwards. Sure, they release patches, but it never seems to fix the bugs. The game was rushed...bf2 has barely been out for a year.

It bugs me, because I know the battlefield series could be much better than it is. If they took the time to polish the game, instead of being forced to rush it out the door.
