Battlefield 2142 @ $37.99 TWO RETAILERS!

This is not an online-only deal; you can get this discount at brick and mortar stores as well! Battlefield 2142 is available for $37.99 at both Circuit City and Fry's Electronics!

I would suggest you print out the online page and take it with you when you go to make your purchase in case the B&M doesn't recognize the lowered price of the game.

And yes, I realize that BF2142 comes with "spyware" (pfft-try playing Planetside).

Most of the gamers here know what the Battlefield series entails, no worries there. Most of them though worry about two main issues that stop them from playing the game:

1.) In-game "spyware" which tracks the advertising data of websites your browse, then post relevant advertisement in-game (example, if you browse numerous car-related websites, it might show a automobile advertisement in game, like maybe on a billboard on a map). Personally though, I tink most of the guys are just worried about the pr0n websites they browse 🙂

2.) Loads of playtime required to unlock upgrades: You must play for long periods of time in order to really get anywhere with the unlocks for the different classes. Its a long grind at times for some people.

I agree.
- It's totally blown out of poroportion.
No big deal for me.
It's a great game.
If you've enjoyed BF2 as much as I have.
Go get it at this great price.
I picked up my copy yesterday.

dice clarified that they don't do that; all they do is monitor which ads you spend the most time looking at in the actual game. they don't go snooping through your hard drive or your browser's cache or anything.

Meh, BF2 is just fine without advertising. I might buy this when it hits $10-15, i figure thats only fair considering the ad revunue they'll be making.

Seriously I have no reason to buy this yet, I dl'ed the demo and played it for maybe like half an hour. I just dont have the time, With BF2 pretty fresh still along with Point of Existence out now I dont have any need to start a new BF2 series.

I know BF2 has been out for more than a year now, but I dont really take that into account since it took about 6 months for the game to get patched properly.

I bought BF2 and it's still half-baked.

Fool me once. . .

Still, good deal if you're into it. I may wait a little longer for my future battlefield fix: Quake Wars for the win.

LMAO.

Ok back on topic...

I didn't start playing BF2 untill it had Co-Op for LANs. I don't have much time to play games at home anymore ... most of the time it's a weekend LAN party affair.

People have reported that 2142 does indeed have Co-Op LAN play. So I'm considering it.

I've really enjoyed the Battlefield series. Even BF2 after the addition of Co-Op.

The "spyware" thing doesn't concern me as DICE has reported many times that it DOES NOT scan your browsing history. It only monitors if you actually look at ads ingame. If someone discovers otherwise ... I'm sure some enterprising law student will bring a class-action.

I wasn't going to pay full price for a game with Ads ... I'm not sure if @ $38 shipped from CC is cheap enough. But it's tempting.

thanks for the Tip OP.

For the last time, would one of you people who continues to claim that BF2142 tracks data outside of the game (like the websites you browse) please provide a link? You can't because that's not what the "spyware" is examining.

I played BF 2142 online this weekend. Where are the advertisements? I only played for about 2 hours but I honestly didn't see one billboard....

Yep. A major disappointment that 1920x1200 is not natively supported. Even F.E.A.R. finally got with the widescreen program with the latest patch.

Although I'm on record as advising that you use a standard resolution for multi-player gaming, it's disappointing not to even have the choice.

Oh well, there's a hack for the BF2 engine at the Widescreen Gaming Forum.

it'd have been a better deal if there wasn't tax or shipping involved.

Price was:

$49.99
You save:

-$12.00

You pay:

$37.99

Free shipping on orders $25 and up

@ CC.

yeah, but with tax it crossed that mystical $40 barrier 🙂

As far as i know my local frys still has it for 34.99 (san diego) , The only issue i have is that i had to unistall alcahol 120 , and dvd x otherwise it would keep saying i had emulator software on my pc and would let me play it. ( i disabled 120 and x as per there help forum but it did not work either).
But once i got that figured out i must say i like the graphics and maps alot, its traditional gameplay so that ok. two other issues i have is loading maps seem to take longer then bf2 as well as respawning, but that might just be me.
Have not seen any ads yet so can comment on that.......

O, I rather have ea's "spyware" then that fu$%#@% "steam" crap for halflife series but thats just me

I apologize for the Spyware thing then-I was just basing it off what I heard.

But yeah, people are blowing things way out of proportion when they talk about the "spyware" that comes bundled with the game-not like its going to stop majority of gamers from picking up and playing the game. There is always that small, vocal minority, but they are a bunch of whiners who are never satisfied with any game, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to them.

And to those who complain that the tax and shipping is too much-there is a rumor going around that actual real-life offline retail stores exist! *gasp*

Worked like a charm for me. Here's my actual target path:

"D:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Demo\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

"D:" is my dedicated games partition so if you do the default instal you should sart with C:

I dont think the spyware deal tracking your browsing habits is the main reason why people are mad. In my opinion people who are mad about the spyware are mad because they dont have control over it. I personally dont like it when companies have the "Because we can and the consumer cant do anything about it" mentality.

So Best Buy has an pc gaming offer this week. Buy 2 games over $19.99 and save $10. So my question is will they price match Circuit City deal and also still give you $10 more off if you buy BF2142 and another game? Yes I am a devil customer 😉

The big issue about spyware is people feel its just another step by a large corporation to find a way to suck cash from you (even though in this case their not but it could be viewed just as bad) and they are getting fed up with it. Just in the past year we've been hit with episodic game releases where a company charges $20 for 4 hours gameplay for the first part of a game. Then you have to wait for months upon months for the next part where they'll charge another $20. Also the issue of companies charging for downloadable content for stuff they used to give away free. Battlepacks or whatever they're called for BF2 and horse armor for Oblivion. Stop treating the customer like atm machines and treat them with the respect they deserve for buying the product in the first place.
