200 to 300 hours? No wai... if it takes you that long to get familiar with everything and be able to compete, BF2 wasn't for you.

There's so many things in BF2 that you need to learn. Jets, Heli, diving attacks, commanding, huge maps, All the different weapons of each kit. Then there are generals who have put down 1500 hours you have to compete with. It took me good 300 hours just to get competitive and I'm a FPS vet. I'm thinking you went into a newb server when you started playing.

I don't think so. I've played about 200 hours total within two months when I really loved the game. In BF2, skill > time played, and it only takes about 20 to 30 hours to get to know the way the game works.
You don't need to be good at every kit, as long as your really good at a few ones. For example, Support, Medic and Anti Tank are my favorite kits, but I can't really ever use the other ones as well. I still usually place within the top 5 of the game anyway.
I hate being a commander, so I don't know why I would ever need to learn that. BF2 is all about specialization. You can try and be good at every role, but it's better to just focus on one thing your good at and go from there. Otherwise the game probably will have a 300 hour learning curve.

Specialization in the game is definitely the way to go. I play best with medic, spec-ops, & engineer. I fail at assault.

I'm trying to get every medal so I did need to learn to command. You need 300 hours or more just to be familiar with the few kits and the maps you play. There's so many things to master in this game and is so much fun. 25-30 hours just for 1 kit is nearly not enough to be competitive with generals who specialized in their kits for 500 hours.
You trying to come to the server I play at? I play wake island mostly but I do play omen and Karkland. It's Team America server 24/7 wake Island 64 men server. Just look for the guy who is a captain who pwns just about everyone including 3 star generals. :laugh: I'm mostly ground and pound and I get more kills than a guy who fly jets all day.
I'm good with every kit except for sniper. There's really nothing you can do with sniper at close range except running at people with a knife.

Personally, I have over 500+ hours, and working on my 3rd expert on kit. I went Special Forces, Medic, and now Assault. Next will probably be Support/Engineer.
Getting the 100 hour requirement for the expert kit can take a long time. But the way I see it, its fun to do it in huge phases, cause you literally become an expert during that time requirement. I've perfected many kits, but the ones with the most hours, I'm god

Battlefield 2 is currently the best online game, no other game beats it, it has big maps, 64 players, vehicles and aircrafts and infantry all in one game, Battlefield 2 has many games in it all in one package and one map.
You can put mines in strategic locations, you drive around running down people, you and your mate can take a cobra and start owning.
Battlefield 2 does need some skill and it has a learning curve, once your past the learning curve and start working on your skills in jets and heli's you will enjoy it.

There a few maps i've barely played, and as you posted, there is so much to do it's tough getting tired of the game as a whole.

Totally agreed. So much you can do. So much room for you to "mess around in"
I personally like to go sniper with my mates, say 2 snipers and 1 support or 1 medic... and try and climb any high rise building or refinery and stay there the whole round unless found and killed.
But you're dead on, too much to do, so many different awards and metals and badges to accomplish. Hands down, the best, to date.
