an x2 would have no benefit as the game is not smp/smt aware, educate yourself.

Sure there is a benifit to games. Having a core dedicated to a game has to be better then wasting cycles on stupid crap running in the background. People need to stop thinking one demensionally. But none of this is usefull for him anyways since I think the biggest culprit is his vid card, but even then onely so much can be done about that. He should probably wait till the 520 comes out Maybe the 7800GTX will come out on AGP and if not the 520 will and if both then he can get which ever one is faster but even then he could still end up falling below 30 FPS just less often.

yeah, all benchmarks says so....

by what 5%? show me the benches...

Just a thought...when you come here asking for help, don't be an asshole to everyone who tells you the problem. Okay?

Intel sucks for gaming. Get over it.

Factor in an AGP graphics card, and extremely high resolutions, and you will get 15fps.

Funny, there are plenty of others with similar setups running 50fps. But thanks for showing how biased you are towards AMD.

Now here's some advice for you. Take your AMD and stick it where the sun dont shine.

Both AMD and Intel are very good processor manufacturers. It's preference according to the users. You can be biased all you want, but when it comes down to the bang for the buck, you can't convince someone to get an AMD processor if they have an LGA mobo and want to replace a CPU. It's common sense, and not everyone shops the same.

He was not asking for an upgrade. He wanted to know why his framerates were so bad.

- 1600x1200 resolution, all settings high
- AGP graphics card
- Intel processor

Not a good combination, I'd say. But w/e.

agp is the not the probem, read and learn a$$

Did we really need you to post against every GO AMDZ post?
Don't blame them for being young and just posting their views. It's an opinion, alibet not what the OP was asking for, but it's still their opinion. Nor do we need you to call them a$$'s, if you want to refute their post do so with links, then stop, no need to flame.

Also depending on whats running and x2 dual core could have some benifits to playing the game. If another program that is someone proc intensive is running in the background stealing clocks an x2 will help alot. Now this doesn't really matter as the OP upgraded to what he has and isn't looking to upgrade right now.

To the OP with OCing and the prescott make sure as I outlined before have lots of case fans. If you don't move the heat out of the case, its gonna build up and cause other problems. Make sure that case is ventilated.

and a nice 92mm fan, excellent performance, better than quite a few h2o setups

Why? We haven't even confirmed what his problem is, telling him to spend money on something so that we can see if it fixes the problem is none too intelligent. It would be more cost effective to figure out the problem and fix it, than buy a bunch of random parts hoping one will fix the problem.

He is being sarcastic. IF all you do is playing games is spending twice as much for 5% worth it probably not. I am just saying that everyone who doesn't want or like DC CPUs tends to make them sound like their horrible gaming CPUs. Thats not true DCs will make games run faster for all but 2% of the world that don't leave a wep page up or has norton running and so on. 5% might not be worth it (infact if i didn't run so much in the background it wouldn't be worth it to me) but that doesn't mean its a bad gaming CPU, quite the opposite.

But none of this matters and is off topic because he could have a 4.5GHz Athlon X2 running with that video card and it still wouldn't help much.

I am seroius look at the reviews out there, the 850XT doesn't handle 1600 with high quality as well as the 7800 and even that would have problems with dips as well. Add on the fact that he isn't running the fastest game CPU (which the reviews use) the fastest memory (which the reviews use) and a system that has loaded windows 100% fresh with nothing else even installed on it (which the reviews use) isn't going to help him. I don't think their is anything wrong with his machine he just needs to step some stuff down, find out what works for him.

That is about right. So we now know that your video card is functioning properly. Make sure you have all of the windows updates, and make sure your system is free of spyware. I use Ad aware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware blaster, and the Microsoft Anti Spyware beta.

If you use all four of those programs and update them and scan your pc once a week, you will be spyware free, even if that is not the problem, I reccomend it.
