Memtest was, last I checked, at memtest86.org (Google will definitely turn it up). You can create a boot floppy/CD that will run memtest and check out your RAM. This is good to start with, since it runs before the OS loads (eliminating software issues), but it takes a few hours to fully scan your system (be sure to enable the full tests).
Prime95 is at
www.mersenne.org. Once you install the software, you can use the 'torture test' mode to test your CPU/RAM. You'll want to let it run for at least a few hours.
3DMark's various incarnations can be downloaded from
www.futuremark.com. It's pretty straightforward to use, and you can compare your results online. If they're way lower than they should be, you probably have driver issues.
DXDiag is built into Windows. Just go to start/run and type 'dxdiag' into the box to run it. Ensure that all the video acceleration things are enabled, and you can run the video and audio tests to make sure DirectX is working correctly.
