More info from ShackNews. In addition to confirming details on Battlefield 1943, accoring to them, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be for the PC also! Right/wrong? It would make sense to me if they do BF1943 on Frostbite for the PC, they should be ready to do all their subsequent games on it too...

For future reference: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Official Site No real details there at the moment.

Battlefield 1943 Pacific looks saaaaaweeet! All the other battlefield games are great but BF1942 is still my first love and this looks like BF1942 redux. Can't wait!

it seems that this game is just a precursor, a warm-up of sorts until BF: Bad Company 2 is released on PC (it even says so on BC 2 website). i am guessing BF:BC 2 will be what BF3 is supposed to be on PC. they haven't announced that it will be 24 players like 1943 so i'm guessing it could be the 64 player modern combat BF game that people have been asking for.

not a big fan of 24 player only for 1943, it must mean that maps are probably shrunken down (compared to BF 1942) to accommodate less players. also not a fan of match-making multiplayer, sounds like L4D to me...

BF1943 looks like another heroes type game. It's even being released on Xbox Live arcade so it's not a serious battlefield game, more like a spinoff.

BF: BC2 looks to be like the BF3 that people have been waiting for. Unless it's just a plain sequel to the old one which only had 24 players among a bunch of other issues.

Worst case scenario is that they are both lame console ports with only 24 players and small maps and we will never see a real BF3.

BF1942 was awesome, but this looks a little too much like BF: Heroes. Only 24 players and 3 maps doesn't sound like my cup of tea. If they can put those destroyable environments on a larger scale though, that would be awesome. I did love BF1942 for the player-controlled artillery, battleships, dogfights - all that good stuff. Hopefully DICE doesn't fuck up.

I wonder when they will bring out BF:1946 - Draw down to a cold war.

A FPS that deals with clerical work surrounding the deactivation of units, scrapping of material, and awarding of medals.

A minor expansion pack can explore the deep dark world of hunting down nazi officials in post war Germany or Argentina. Game ends with the beginning of tensions between the communists and west.

It looks to me like BF1943 is "practice", a prototype if you will, for the Frostbite engine on the three main platforms, Xbox, PS3, and PC. Apparently it worked out so well that they figured they could throw a few more man-months at it and make some money off of it.

It can then be a large-scale beta test for anything they want to try out for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Hopefully that means they intend that BF: BC2 will be epic.

I don't see them developing any PC only Battlefield games in the future. So if there is a Battlefield 3 in the future, it will come out for consoles and the PC. They best we can probably hope for is that the PC version supports more players.

Yeah, only 24 players is kind of weak.

Yea, 24 max is very limited. Hell sometimes I feel 32 is weak. Oh well. We'll see how this turns out.

While you might be right, it's probably a stupid move by EA, but no one's ever accused them of being smart. Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 have outsold any of the console games made by DICE. Mirror's Edge and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat were huge failures by comparison. Even the combined sales of Battlefield: Bad Company on both consoles wasn't as high as either Bf42 or Bf2 sales. They had a successful PC exclusive franchise going, and it looks like they are going to blow it. Any other game that did that well would have gotten a similar sequel by now.

Fuck that...

The initial game will come with available weapons of a squirt gun and chuckable rocks. Available vehicles will include a big wheel and a single roller skate.

Other weapons will be available for download via booster packs for a small fee.

Exciting that they will basically recreate BF 1942 with a modern engine.., not exciting that the footage looks very similar to Hero's, which hasn't been proven yet. And just doesn't seem to have the same flow as classic Battlefield.

Honestly this reeks of a hasty decision to split up the current development cycle to pump out more IP based on the same R&D. If I didn't think that I would think that BF: Hero's was a disguise beta for BF 1943.. but with only 3 maps? probably not.

Regenerating health, unlimited ammo and 3 classes? Way to listen to the fans EA, par for the course.

I like the look of it, and the addition of B-24 and Kate bombers makes me happy.
I just hope they don't screw it up.
It was so much fun to get a good team together for bombing runs in the B-17 in BF1942.

This and the 24 players limit seems just like another gimped console port. I don't have high hopes for BF:BC2 either. I bet you it's gonna have the same 24 players limit. That's not how the BF series is supposed to play. If the trends continues, I worry that BF3 might be multiplatform too.
