LOL, don't get me wrong, I LOVED BF1942! I "smell" that EA will release 1943 as different games every year: BF 1943 Pacific, BF 1943 Europe, BF 1943 Africa, BF 1943 Australia, BF 1943 Mexico, and so on. Then maybe ramp up the years as well? BF 1944 Pacific, and so on....*wink*

FFS, another WW2 game?

You're more cliché than WWII games.

care to explain?

The world is already acutely aware that many people are tired of WWII games it does not require mentioning. Many of us still love the genre regardless and this fact will not change.

You people that are excited about this are fucking retarded. They're selling you PART of a game you ALREADY OWN with a texture pack.

And you're excited? Holy shit.

I wondered what EA would do when they ran out of wars to Battlefieldize. Now we know. It's a pity too. BF1942, BF: Nam, and BF:2 were all outstanding (1942 was still the best by far), but they've finally exploited the concept to death.

Looks like a cross between crysis & BF1942.

To be honest I think it looks pretty sweet...I don't care if it is modern or old school as long as the game play is decent and they fix the damn hit boxes so you don't have to lead someone running by 6 inches on the screen to register a hit...

Yeah, I think you can fly the B25s, but the ammo and health in this game is unlimited, and there are only three classes. Basically, this game is Battlefield Heroes with three maps, the Frostbite engine, and some classical gameplay. Not what I want, tbh, but whatever.

however DICE said 5 months ago that there are 5 Battlefield projects in the works, including Heroes and Bad Company.

Now we have Bad Company 1, Bad Company 2, BF: Heroes, BF 1943, and ????.

It's possible this project is the BF3 we're looking forward to, but if it is, it might not come out til 2010, in fact, I think 2010 is probably a good bet. Maybe even 2011...

Or it's just a "Part 2" for BF 1943 (1944)...

EA will likely position the traditional battlefield series to be the competitor of the Call of Duty franchise. Expected a BF2: Modern Combat series to compete with the CoD4 Modern Combat series and BF194x series to compete with the CoD WAW series.

It's possible DICE wants to make a BF:Heroes with frostbite graphics to test their new engine on the PC, and then release the full load with BF3, and Bad Company 2.

Bad Company 2 is coming to the PC btw.

Three maps and 24 player max? Fuck this garbage. Pity... I love BF 1942 and BF 2.

CoD and BF are totally different games, i don't know why you're comparing the two, they don't satisfy the same gaming needs for me. unless you're one of those people who play BF2 for its infantry combat. CoD is good but i wouldn't choose one and skip the other because BF games are more than just infantry fps.

I am quite aware of the differences, I was looking forward to the shift in the FPS genre away from the beaten to hell wwII theme.

I agree with Oakenfield, there are plenty of other settings. Vietnam was a good step. Perhaps a Korean War battlefield would be cool, but don't expect it from this studio.

1. DICE could do things more productive with their workforce.... not this crap they're working on..
---Supporting: Bad Company.
---Creating Battlefield Heroes
---Creating Battlefield 1943
---Supposedly a Bad Company for PC
---Whatever else projects they are working on.
2. The Battlefield "19##" trademark used to be something that actually had weight, not anymore.

Throw in some pretty generic looking BF type game, some "Frostbyte" engine the used from a previous game, put the 1940 brand name on it, and bam, you got yourself a cash cow.

I'd support this if it were a 2 month away special $10 DLC for consoles, but a major PC title? It its 350MB on consoles, I can only imagine the huge detail difference on PC... *Sarcasm*

This just flat out sucks. I just need my Armed Assault 2 and I can throw this childish BS out the window and play some real games. Hopefully they will get a lot of bad press for this game, because from most of the forums I visit, most people think this is a bad call by DICE.

So sad we are not getting a real Battlefield 1943, ie 64 player, ships, gunship aircraft, carriers, etc.

I think it's pretty obvious most people feel this way. Nonetheless it'll be a decent battlefield game that most of us are looking forward to. I doubt sales will be hurt much if the gameplay is up to par.

Ever since of Bf42 and 64 man servers, I dreamed that the next gen should be no less than 128 players!

Now 128 players at once is "epic"

the true answer for this 24 player nonsense has been revealed in an interview with DICE designer found at TGN:

the question was why the limitation of 24 players?

"these design decisions there are technical limitations. Microsoft and Sony have a very strict bandwidth limit on consoles and we are networking a lot more then 24 players:
- 24 players are networked
- Almost as many physics driven vehicles with movable and destroyable parts
- All destruction, if a wall is being destroyed on one client we need to update it on all the others, otherwise we could end up with players hiding behind non-existent walls.

If we did remove all destruction and all our vehicles we could have more players. But no other game gives you the wide gaming experience we have!"

it doesn't bode well for Bad Company 2 for PC if they don't bother modifying the console versions to accommodate more players.

Well, if they just simply port it over to PC w/o any changes, they (EA/DICE) wont be getting any of my money.

And BF:Nam and BF2142. All great games.

I refuse to play an online FPS with less than 40-50 other people.

IGN Hands-on

Except for the small landing craft that cart players from the carriers to the shore, controllable naval ships have been eliminated. Now the enemy capital ships will simply serve as permanent, non-destroyable spawn points for players and vehicles.

Player limits are capped at 12 on 12 for all matches because those are the numbers that the Frostbite engine handles best. The numbers might get bumped up on the PC, but that's not a sure thing.

The team says there's no possibility of cross-platform play owing to the balance issues created by different input devices.

Right now there's no plan to include other battles in the game but, given the number of amazing levels in the original game and the producer's obvious excitement when we pressed them about Tobruk, Kursk and Market Garden, we're sure that the possibility exists for future content releases down the road.

You know, if they got rid of the destroyable environments and kept the 64 player implementation, I'd still be open to it. IMO BF2 just needs a graphical refresh and not a complete rebuild from the ground up.

K, sounds like battlefield is dead.
