Well I've kind of thought to keep it a public server, but also specifically for members of [AT] (they can tell me what maps, settings, etc they want, and if there will ever need to be admins, they will be AT members..). Right now we can't even get enough players in it to play, so setting a password on it would pretty much cripple the server even further.

I think its that not as many people have the retail as had the demo. I've noticed that EA has fewer public servers up than during the demo. And during the demo, almost all of them would be full, now quite a few are empty.

I'd say wait a week to see the servers start to fill up.

Well, I finally got the game. I had to patch it and download the sblive drivers (guess they never tested with the drivers xp installs) and it seems to work fine now.

The 204.248.53.42 had people on it but the missions would end too soon. Someone needs to reconfigure something so the battle goes until the end.

The ars server is a lot of fun. The tank battles are a blast.

Overall, i'm satisfied with my purchase.

Do you mean the tickets or the timelimit? The timelimit is set to 45 minutes per round, or until one team dominates the outposts. On larger maps, that might be a little bit harder for intruding teams. I have the tickets set to 100, but sometimes the server will automatically change the # of tickets that are started out with at the beginning of the map due to map differences.

If one team sits around and does nothing, or is really bad, then it will be a short round, for sure. Nothing can prevent that -- increasing timelimits nor tickets will help.

Here's the settings:

game.serverDedicated 1
game.serverGamePlayMode GPM_CQ
game.serverGameTime 45
game.serverMaxPlayers 42
game.serverScoreLimit 0
game.serverInternet 1
game.serverNumberOfRounds 3
game.serverSpawnTime 8
game.serverSpawnDelay 3
game.serverGameStartDelay 10
game.serverGameRoundStartDelay 10
game.serverSoldierFriendlyFire 0
game.serverVehicleFriendlyFire 0
game.serverTicketRatio 100
game.serverAlliedTeamRatio 1
game.serverAxisTeamRatio 1
game.serverCoopAiSkill 75
game.serverCoopCpu 20
game.serverPassword ""
game.setServerWelcomeMessage 0 ""
game.ServerBandwidthChokeLimit 0
game.maxAllowedConnectionType CTLanT1
game.ServerAllowNoseCam 1
game.ServerFreeCamera 0
game.ServerExternalViews 1
game.ServerAutoBalanceTeams 1
game.ServerNameTagDistance 100
game.ServerNameTagDistanceScope 300
game.ServerKickBack 0.000000
game.ServerKickBackOnSplash 0.000000
game.setServerSoldierFriendlyFireOnSplash 0
game.setServerVehicleFriendlyFireOnSplash 0
game.setServerIP 204.248.53.42
game.setServerPort 14567

If you want one of those changed let me know and I'll take it into consideration...

Edit: The next time the server is started up it will support 36 players, reduced from the 42.. I think 42 is a bit too much for the T1s.

Edit #2: Just rebooted server and am trying 36 players..

Why no FF? I like how one of the Ars server does 50% FF. Doesn't outright kill the guy if you screw up, but you be made aware of it. Keeps you on your toes a bit when using heavy guns.

There's too many newbies and idiots that make the game unfun by intentionally killing teamates. I'll think about 50% FF though, and with backfire on (what do you guys think about backfire)? There's some people who come on and play JUST to kill teamates and piss people off. Backfire still wouldn't solve this because they'd just keep on doing it. Hopefully since this is retail, though, there will be a lot less people like that.

So far I've seen 2-3 AT people join. Soccerbud, vi_edit, and neomits. That's it. So we can't really run a private server with 4 people joining and that's all :p If we did do a private server, then we could do FF for sure... but we don't have anywhere near enough people.

yeah I'm hoping in a week or 2 we'll have enough people to make a private server

if not we could always put up the IP and pass on another trustworthy forums where at least it'll filter out some of teh smacktards

I made it in :D

To find me...just look for the idiot running around with the medkit or the wrench in the middle of fire. I just run around aimlessly fixing people and tanks.

Speaking of tanks.....I like them....I like them a lot :D

Personally, I hate backfire. Its only purpose is to prevent intentional TK'ers. But it ends up hurting people who incidently TK, say by throwing a nade at a tank and having a teammate run up to it before it goes off. After a time or two of doing this, you'll stop throwing the nade. And the tank will own you.

I've been playing more on the Ars server since it gets more people. I'm there as MurderDeathKill, I might add the [ATOT] bit.

BTW, I love the Stalingrad map. Its small, which makes the tanks hard to use. But man, there are tons of great hiding spots. Lots of places to get above someone and rain down lead on them.

ok HUGE TIP for those of you having performance issues.

Myself I've got an AMD 1800 512 DDR RAM and a GF3Ti200 and I was getting terrible FPS when I had practically EVERYTHING turned down.

The one thing I didn't think to turn down was the sound settings. I was amazed at how much CPU power this took up. I went ahead and knocked it down to 11KHz (still use hardware for channels) and Medium Effects and it helped out alot. I'm still not impressed and expect I should be able to turn up the details some more without lag but for now its a good quick fix.

Just to let you know

204.248.53.42 has 36/36 people on right now :D This is usually when it's the laggiest, too..

what sound cards can use Hardware sound? Will the Santa Cruz and Hercules GXTP be able to handle it? Or is it just for audigy?

I have just an SB Live and I think it adjusts to whatever it could handle (takes whatever load was on the CPU and puts it on the soundcard)

maybe I'm wrong... I'll try disabling it and messing with the channels and see what combination is best

yeah I wanna know what that hardware sound actually does. I've heard turning the music down actually helps a lot too.
