Bunch of old farts complaining about the "glory days of gaming" in here is what it seems like to me. I've found each Battlefield game fun and endearing in different ways, and I've played them all since the original 1942 came out. Over 1000 hours on BF4, but done with it for now.

I eagerly await the next title.

I stopped caring when unlocks got out of control.

My best times in Battlefield had to have been in BF2. Tactics mattered and the maps/gameplay were fun. Twitch gameplay gets old fast for me, I could never get too into CS because of it.

I hope they allow tunneling like at the Battle of Messines. That would be pretty cool, I could see alot of people hating that aspect of gameplay though.

It's DICE, and after what they did with Battlefront* I wouldn't expect anything like that.

*Like automated AT-ATs, taking massive underadvantage of the Star Wars IP.

Still, WW1 is an underexplored era for multiplayer shooters, could be fun.

If WW1 is true, then that is genius as HELL. No one has been talking about a WW1 possibility that I have seen. What an awesome surprise that would be. Holy crap I hope they do it.

Based on the popularity of 64 player metro I suspect WW1 trench warfare to be successful and fun, hehe. I also think biplanes would be good for air combat as they are not overpowered like modern jets and their slow speed would work better and be more realistic on battlefield sized maps, also more balanced skill-wise.

I've been playing Verdun this weekend, now I don't really know how I feel about them releasing a ww1 game. It's fun but still very much a twitch shooter, you just better not miss on your first shot.

I was left for dead on BF4, but being interested in the two world wars, I may give it a look if I don't need a new computer to run it.

I like the idea of going back to WWI, but IM not sure how fun it will actually be, especially after being used to the fast pace and massive killing sprees one can go on in BF4. I can only stand to play Verdun for short intervals before getting bored, but it should at least look a heck of a lot better than Verdun.

WWI:
Volley-fire
Machine guns and Rushes
Trench Warfare
Biplanes and blimps
Artillery
No mans land

Not sure what to think yet.

I want huge, detailed and interesting maps. I want 96 or 128 players. I want huge team death match battles, I want game modes that feel like mini wars rather than battles and I want the fight to go on for a long time, with a ton of players and a ton of space to fight in and I want it to be huge, massive, take a long time, and be amazing.
I want the battle to feel like you are gearing up for a long haul commitment with a large scope and scale of ways you can contribute. I want to be able to infiltrate enemy territory and destroy assets that have a real impact on the battlefield.

I WANT IT ALL AND I WANT IT NOW.

I think WWI will be a snooze fest. No man portable automatic weapons is going to lose people like crazy. I can totally see it as an expansion pack, but I know its not a game I'd want to put 1000 hours into. Biplanes and early tanks? Cool. Pretty much only bolt action rifles? Yawn.

Could be fun initially but I dont see this taking off, we've had many variants of WW themed games and game play always gets a bit limited with time.

Give us a true Battlefield 2 successor. Eastern Europe and Middle Eastern settings and play upon current political climate, modern Cold War-ish type campaign focus. Proxy armies, robust vehicles land air and sea, controllable carriers with carrier launched cruise missiles larger player count, manned artillery pieces in addition to personal mortars, some f'in MOD Tools, live weather system, maybe even multi faction battles to reflect the battlefield challenges in Syria today. Just some thoughts.

I don't think we'll ever see MOD tools for the Frostbite engine. From what the devs have said the tools to produce content for the Frostbite engine are 'too complex' for the average person to use.

I think that's a bunch of BS to be honest, so I really think there is some IP in the content tools for the engine that they don't want to release to the public and separating that stuff from the content tools to make MOD tools simply won't happen since the execs at EA will never see the value in spending the engineering hours to end up with the same capabilities as before.

They simply don't want their DLC packs competing with mods that do the same or similar thing for free. I agree it sucks but that is reality.

Exactly, their initial comment was that we were too dumb, then it changed to well maybe but dont hold your breath and then just silent. They realize how good the DC devs were and don't want their franchise threatened.
