I really am leaning towards the 3.

Autoweek named the Mazda 3 as the best economy car, followed by the Honda Civic, and the Audi A3.

I'd take the audi, but I'm a german fanboy. After the warranty expires it will be more expensive to maintain than the others, but for the first 50k/4 years you'll have free maintainance (everything, minus breaks and oil changes, assuming it's like all other audis)

Give me an S3 or 2.0T with Quattro, and I would feel differently. But comparing FWD to FWD, give me the Mazda.

The A3 with Quattro and the 3.2 V6 is supposed to arrive in December, but I think it will probably be a little more than I want to spend. I bet it will be a fun car though.

Audi S/RS = ///M, AMG, SRT, etc.

I read on audiworld that the 3.2 S-Line will be at the +- 40k mark. Did you drive all 3 cars yet? That would probably be the deciding factor, no real point in just comparing them on paper.
