Hm..the magnet is oriented vertically through the shaft... and from my E&M I can remember that to induce a higher potential spike you need to move the magnet faster through the inductor.... so that means shaking harder..... up and down... repeatedly... for a minute... does anyone else find visualizing someone trying to charge this thing funny in the least?
 
LED lights are very bright. I got a stylus for my Palm Pilot that has an LED, and boy it can really light a dark room up. It puts out a light blue light. You could use it for a flashlight. It is made by Belkin. :Q
