Batteries last years, and when my dad owned a convenience store, 90% of the batteries he sold in a year were sold on Christmas Day... there was no chance the batteries he sold were more than a year old (so they were never out of date).

No. Fresh batteries are the best, you won't see much of a difference in performance between Duracell/Energizer/Whatever. I buy bulk at Costco usually, they work great.
But, once you get to higher end batteries, stick to good ones. I put 4 e3 Lithium Energizers in my Canon A95 back in JUNE, and I've taken at least 750 pictures since then, they're still going. Amazing life on those things.

Rechargeables. They do the job and never really worry about running out at an inopportune time.
Assuming that you have more then 1 set, and that you actually recharged the other ones, and that you brought them with you.
I don't give a flying fvck who use any particular battery for any application. No concern for ecology to speak of. I'm ONLY concerned with bang for the buck, and for most applications, rechargeable are the cheapest way to go in the long run. I can get a set of alkaline batteries to last years in a TV remote. Rechargeable would be a pain in the ass to use for that application, because they would need to be charged several times over those years.Originally posted by: AlienCraft

Putting them in an Artists IEM's or Wireless mic is just asking for a bus ticket home before the next show.
Job security > Ecology as far as the Entertainment Business is concerned.
2300mAh NiMH Rechargeable Batteries for a buck each! WTF would anybody try to get by with just a couple sets?Originally posted by: SuperSix

I'm not in THAT much of a hurry, I can miss the use of the camera for an hour.

In the US I don't notice a difference, but once you get out to Asian countries I would only buy name brand batteries. The cheaper generics are really bad there, lasting about 1/4 the time that duracell will last.

These are people whose performance actually does hinge on a $4.00 item. Since they have the $$ to spend on anything, why else would they NOT be using Rechargeables ?
Back in 97, before Journey reformed and went on tour, I did extensive testing of various batteries trying to find which rechargeable we could use and not spend a bunch of money on what ends up being tossed at the end of each show. Rechargeables sucked, Duracell PRO's won.
BTW, we end up giving away the old batteries to the local crew so it's not like we were being totally negligent about them.

You are comparing rechargeables from 1997 to the ones of today? Change your lion to a scarecrow.
Why? They haven't changed markedly since then. I stated what I had personally tested as my main point of view. Then, I stated what I know to be true froma professional audio business point of view. Your assumption that I'm only referencing data from 1997 shows more about your mad comprehension skilz and respect of the scientific methodology used to produce that data than it does about the quality of the data.In your expereience, are brand name batteries (duracell/engergizer) better than off brand batteries?
which do you use?

Job security > Ecology as far as the Entertainment Business is concerned.Well good for you and your TV set. As for WHY rechargeables aren't used in the Music Business, I can just hear you saying "WTF" when your favorite artist needs to change out a mic because it craps out during a song. I'm sure you wouldn't care about the ecology then. Say how's biking to work going for you? Did you properly recycle that old 13" CRT Monitor? Have you insulated all the pipes and added a solar system to your Hot water supply?Originally posted by: SuperSix

Until you move out of your glass house, you really should carefully consider all the ramifications of casting stones at another.
