Batman Arkham City, delayed for the PC

KaOTiK

Sometime in November now.

No reason giving, probably cause PC gamers are second class citizens now, but hopefully it is for some more polish instead.

Son of a bitch. One of the few games I was going to buy day one, but now will just wait till the Steam holiday sale. I wanted to play and finish this before Skyrim, since Skyrim will own me /rage

I'd like to say I'll hold off til Nov, but I might end up getting it for 360 anyway. Then on PC down the road when its cheap.

I was thinking about picking it up for the console (PS3) as well. I ended up getting Asylum for the PC when it was on sale on Steam, because it was also the Game of the Year edition where my 360 copy is just the standard version.

I'd have to see if the PC version offers any real benefit over the consoles. Is this still based on Unreal Engine 3? If I can't get anti-aliasing in the game, I have no desire to get it for the PC, since I'd like to get use my PC's hardware! 😛

I could not get Asylum to work on my Win 7 x64 box. I suspect it was b/c of my GTX 570 and something w/ Direct X. Nothing I could think of fixed my issue. Game just would NOT fire up .... I was bummed.

I would rather the game be delayed than the publisher release a buggy piece of shit (Dead Island), that requires several patches to work right.

Developers can never do right. They release a game too early, we complain about bugs; they delay a game to address bugs, we cry foul and feel we are second class citizens...

Sounds like it was something personal, because I have Win 7 64bit and a GTX570 and have no problems whatsoever. Got the GOTY edition from steam. It requires GFWL, but that also installed and worked without issue. Check all video card and display drivers. Reinstall, verify cache, run memory tests, check for overclocks.

The only thing I'd like better on the PC is that I have 3D vision set up already, and Batman AA looks great with that. I'm sure a full city would look amazing.

Thing is they didn't even say why, not even some half ass excuse so who knows why it is delayed. Like I said in the OP

Well... it stands to reason that if equal dev time was dedicated to each version of the game that the 360 and ps3 versions would also need to be delayed. But that's not true, so that means not enough dev time was given to that version which actually makes it the 3rd rate version at best. We're not even 2nd rate!

Dead Island didn't have such ridiculous bugs on the consoles.

This kind of blows since i was really looking forward to it. Oh well, hopefully it will come out bug free as others have mentioned

PC programming is more bug prone than console programming, far more hardware and software variables involved.

I think this statement kind of bothered me, because it's not necessarily the application/game that has bugs in it, but the APIs used by the application/game or the drivers that are used by the hardware may have bugs. I mean... how uncommon is it to see a new Catalyst driver released, and it contains bug fixes for specific games. 😛

Or it's just more complex to code for PC's and there is something they need to fix or adjust. For all we know the PC version could have more dev time put into it than the others as some things are easier on a platform by platform basis.

The problem is that we are getting use to it being both buggy and delayed.

Look at torchlight 2, it was suppose to be out in the spring, but got delayed due to the 360 port, and we are still waiting for it, and probably will still be waiting for it next spring. So, now a game that would have been a first day purchase for me, I won't pick it up until it is $5 on steam because so many other games I want (Skyrim, D3) are going to be out first.

I can definitely wait for this to get cheap, the first was fun but combat was waaaay too easy and every boss fight was basically the same but it was still very fun.

You can use anti-aliasing in the PC version of Asylum...

Games for Windows Live. I definitely didn't have that. What is it? Is it something like Steam? Did I even need the disc?

Damn.

It's an extra little background app that overlays on top of the game, lets you chat with other folks and see what friends are playing and all that. A lot of people don't care for it, but I actually like it as it adds the social aspect of the 360 to PC gaming. It should be part of the install though regardless of if you got it retail or through steam.

It never installed that .... maybe that should have been on first?

I don't think it's a separate app that can be installed, but I may be wrong. I thought it was just something that some games are built with. You can google it and try to find a stand alone GFWL download and reinstall Batman to see what happens.

Would I have to install DX9 too? I'll admit I've been out of the picture for awhile as far as PC Gaming is concerned. However, I've had no such trouble w/ SC2, Rift, EQ2, WoW, etc. Just - this - one.

Sounds like the same sort of delay we got with the Crysis 2 DX11 patch. Nvidia needs to manipulate the game to make them look better in benchmarks and to disable AA on AMD cards, delaying the release 😎
