Baseball, in its entirety, will be dead to me...

Again I ask. What baseball rules did Bonds break?

He broke laws on a federal level (using a controlled substance). Using HGH was not breaking MLB rules, but I'm pretty sure using the designer steroids was.

Then perhaps the feds should worry about it from a government perspective, not a baseball record/HoF one? If he's not proven to breaking any baseball rules, he isn't "cheating".

wow are there some uniformed people in this thread....and a few good thoughts as well...

my 2 cents..

A-Rod is an awesome player - he has NOTHING to do with the Yankees failure to win a WS last year, and, barring major injuries, he should be in good position to break the HR record, whether it belongs to Aaron or Bonds - yes, Griffey was on pace to do that as well, but he never took care of his body the way A-Rod takes care of himself - heck, the guy does eye excercizes every day for nearly an hour....his eyes!

HGH in pro sports, and in any non-medical need situation, is a complete and utter idiotic idea, period.

Only an issue with Bonds because he's black? Please get your head out of your a44. Bonds is a jerk - his teammates don't like him, the media doesn't like him..compare that to the fans opinions of Sosa & McGwire during their home run chase season - fans loved both of them - they were outgoing, friendly...everything Bonds isn't.

Great point to metion that McGwire hit 49 HR's as a rookie - he was always a big guy, but he didn't get 'huge' until he went to St. Louis - that change in team seems to be when he started, or increased, his andro, or whatever else he was using, and suddenly he was a feared hitter again....

with Bonds, look at the stats...

from Age 22 to 29, his seven years with Pitt, he averaged 25 HR's a year.....with a high of 34

from age 29 to 36, his first seven years with SF, he averaged 38 HR's a year....

while difficult to imagine it was all natural, I'm not going to say it's impossible...29-33 are generally the 'prime' years....

but then it gets into Bizzaro world numbers.....from the age of 36 through last season at the age of 40 (birthday is late July), he averaged 51.6 HR's a year..take out the 73 HR year, and his average is still 46+ per year....

Combine those stats with the change in his physical appearance..

LINKY with other players too

From ESPN.com:

Bonds is under contract with the Giants through the 2006 season and has said he would consider returning in 2007 if he was within reach of Aaron's record.

I swear to God, if he breaks that record and they put that piece of sh1t in the books above Aaron, I'll never even acknowledge baseball exists again. I already don't like it as much as I used to, but if that happens, I will truly just completely give up on the sport.

Fvck you Barry Bonds.

Am I alone in this? Will anyone else be disillusioned if that happens?

EDIT: In order to explain to anyone new coming in, let me be more clear. I hate him for his attitude, but that has nothing to do with this. This particular record does not belong to him. He's a great hitter: no doubt about that. But he was not a power hitter before he went the steroid route, and for that I hate him. This one record, above all others, he does not deserve. The fact that he is looking specifically to break this record makes me hate him even more.

show me proof that he did roids. give me ANY sort of proof at all and I will be likely to believe you. you're so ignorant you bastard.

er, to me cheating is cheating, there's no cheat a little is ok in my book.
So you believe that many World Series Championships should be forfieted because players and team employees were stealing the signs from the opposing team?

Ok, so do you consider intentionally fouling players at the end of a basketball game to stop the clock cheating?

Pffft, that's ridiculous. For every study you find that says that, I'll give you one that disagrees. Like this one, for instance.

Why fvck with human design? Why not just leave it alone? You can say that the long-term effects are non-existant, but you don't know, and neither does ANY scientist, that this is true. Every person reacts to treatments differently, so while it would be fine for one person, it might be very harmful for another. I'm 6'9"... do you think it would be OK for me to take that sh1t?
uhhh, that article has nothing to do with exogenous administration of GH, and as such doesn't even get the chance to deliver a "drugs are bad, mmmkay" message.

The side effects they preach to you in 7th grade P.E. class are overblown, with the medical care pro athletes would have available to them, it would not be a significant problem. But from a purist perspective, I don't want to see a bunch of 40-45 year olds on hormone replacement therapy getting the chance to destroy all of the historic records.
