Baseball, in its entirety, will be dead to me...

From ESPN.com:

Bonds is under contract with the Giants through the 2006 season and has said he would consider returning in 2007 if he was within reach of Aaron's record.

I swear to God, if he breaks that record and they put that piece of sh1t in the books above Aaron, I'll never even acknowledge baseball exists again. I already don't like it as much as I used to, but if that happens, I will truly just completely give up on the sport.

Fvck you Barry Bonds.

Am I alone in this? Will anyone else be disillusioned if that happens?

EDIT: In order to explain to anyone new coming in, let me be more clear. I hate him for his attitude, but that has nothing to do with this. This particular record does not belong to him. He's a great hitter: no doubt about that. But he was not a power hitter before he went the steroid route, and for that I hate him. This one record, above all others, he does not deserve. The fact that he is looking specifically to break this record makes me hate him even more.

Good reason to give up on a sport 😕

Hey may not be a great guy, but you can't diminish the fact that he DID hit that many homeruns, juiced or not.

Yea, Bonds has got no talent.

Uh, if he breaks the record, why the hell wouldn't they put him in the record books? Home run records have nothing to do with whether people think you're a nice guy or not.

Plenty of guys are juiced and/or physically strong and they aren't dominating pitchers like Bonds is.

His talent is possibly unmatched in the history of baseball, and once he had the physique to use that talent, things took off.

bonds owns, he deserves to be there. having muscles != automatic talent

edit: and OP if you really take sh|t like this so seriously you need to lighten up

I'm not going to get into an argument over this again. Just remember that with steroids, not only does it make you stronger, it helps fight injuries, allows your body to heal faster so you can work out harder and more frequently, maintains muscles instead of letting them degenerate (what happens when a person ages), as well as improves pre-existing skills.

Bonds was a first-ballot HOFer without the juice. With the juice, he was a completely different monster.

Bonds has amazing talent regardless if he took steroids or not. What irritates me so much about him, and the reason I don't like him, is the stance he takes towards the whole steroids issue. He makes it out to the media as though he's the victim here.

Did anyone else feel this way after seeing his news conference (the one where he brought his son) during spring training? What a tool.

He's a great player, but I hate the guy.

I was being sarcastic. I played competitive baseball for 15 years. I can certainly respect Bonds talent, steroids or not.

He would not be vilified nearly as much if he were white.

Correct, how have they treated McGuire throughout this whole mess

If a scandal like this had broken when McGwire was chasing the season record, you better believe it would've been as bad if not worse than with Bonds.

It's so bad for Bonds because he's in line to break one of the most prolific records in baseball history.

Are you kidding me? McGuire isn't currently chasing any records, and if this came out the year after he broke the HR record he would have gotten chewed out all the same.

On top of that, his display in front of congress made him the mockery of every sportscaster in the country. I also think that it is because of this he won't make it into the hall of fame.

Racism my ass.

It's not like his record will last very long. A-rod will break it someday.

Just like Griffey Jr was going to break it, right?

EDIT: Also, assuming Arod needed to get to 756 to break the recrod, he needs 351 home runs. If he plays for 9 more years (including this year), that's 39 home runs a year. Do you realize how difficult that really is?

That's what they said about Griffey.. things happen in Baseball and I don't think A-rod will even sniff the top 10.
