A lot of those people are black, a lot of them are not. A lot of black people don't dress like or act like those people. Yeah, they're just clothes - but clothes can say a lot about a person.

Now, if they really are letting in white people who violate their dress codes, or rejecting respectable black people, that's wrong. But I'm not going to believe they're doing that just because some sideways hat wearer with a grudge says so.

But I'm not a sideway hat wearer - never have been, never ever will be.

Yeah I was talking about the other guy. I don't know why they reject you, but if they reject you during peak hours I'd probably stop going during off-peak hours.

The club I work at has a similar policy. We like to keep a certain crowd there but that's the advantage of having a private establishment we can deny entry to anyone.

you do know private establishments can restrict access to ANYONE for any reason...

racism or not.

in fact... i think this place had a "no black people" policy.. and people still frequented it by the hundreds... and it even got tv coverage every year...

Augusta National

In fact, a few years ago, they were 'accused' of deliberately changing their golf course so a black person couldn't win the masters..

In the city I live in it's common to not let gangster looking people in the bars regardless of what skin color they are to stem the amount of violence caused by said people.

Not necessarily true. Augusta can get away with it because it isn't open to the public. I don't know if there are any federal laws regarding this, but most (all?) states have laws against discrimination against a protected class by a place of public accommodation. They most likely can't refuse you service because you're black, but they can refuse you service because you're ugly.

So what you're saying is these guys would never be allowed into the club?

EDIT: Ignore the text in the thought bubbles. I downloaded the picture from 4chan.

Continental isn't a club, it's a dive bar. Cheap shots tho. Getting negged there is kinda funny.

I was gonna say, judging by the pic, they probably let homeless people in there

What is getting negged? Never heard that slang before.

OP: It sounds like they might be racial profiling. Unfortunately, it is legal since they're private. :(

There's a famous restaurant in Philly that has a sign "this is America, please speak ENGLISH". It is protested and had its legality questioned, but the sign is still there years later.

Granted its a little different, they aren't denying them entrance to the restaurant, but same idea.

I don't think you look black, or gangsta. I find your treatment inexplicable. You sort of look Islamic; Could that be it?

Some of the bars in my area have dress codes to exclude wiggers, and ghetto types, but afaik those are the only restrictions. Your exclusion's BS, but I'd just find a different place to go. Whether they're right or wrong, you have better things to worry about.

I'm a dark, dark indian who ignorant people often assume is black (especially now that I shave my head.. damn genetic hair loss!). Actually, you don't have to be that ignorant to think that I'm black, I have some african features

Exactly... such as not being allowed into white-only bars.

I was never much into the bar scene, but if I were you, I'd be a bit torqued, too.

Have you guys ever hit a gentlemen's club? Might sound strange to do with your co-eds, but a lot of chicks dig it and have a great time... plus you won't get bounced for being a(n) (alleged) spade.

It's interesting, yet completely unsurprising, that ATOT can't even consider the possibility of racism.

I'm indian and I hit up the continental quite a bit (i'm a shot machine). Yes the owner is sort of a jumpy douche and yes they sometimes kick you out for no reason. However, i've never been rejected from entering in the first place. I have been kicked out for being too drunk (even though I wasn't). Unfortunately, this is one of the cheapest shot bars in manhattan. 5 Shots for 10 bucks is hard to beat (even if the shots are smaller than normal). even the regular mixed drinks are dirt cheap. I also thought the "baggy clothes" thing was a little racist. Meh, I dress normal so I've got no issues.

::Edit:: Yes I think they're very racist. But as ATOT pointed out, it's a private establishment :(

If you want other places that have cheap shots and that aren't racist, below is a list of a couple around the city:
Cheap Shots
Barcelona Bar
1 2 3 Burger Shot Beer

First, the bar definitely sounds like the owner's got a racist outlook.
Second, why in the hell would ANYONE choose a bar to hang out in that has a "dress code/vibe code/don't like your black face code?."
Third, the owner was right about one thing, find a different bar to hang out in.
