My $ is on Aaron being clean, Bonds using steroids.

Yeah, because a human being couldn't POSSIBLY pack on some muscle and weight in 15+ years. That would be simply unheard of outside of steroid useage.

edit: I'm simply saying your comparison of pictures tells in no way that he used steroids.

He was a hall of famer before then so what would have been the point.
That someone else was doing it is not an excuse.

He has shown that he will bend/break the rules. The record does not deserve to belong to him.

Who said it was an excuse? Face it, people bash him because he is Barry regardless of how many others have done it. People just don't like him. It has more to do with what people think about him as a person as opposed to his steroid use.

When is the last time you heard about Jason Giambi btw?

The difference IMO mostly relates to Bonds' attitude, especially toward the press - he has never been anything but a surly, arrogant cretin, whereas McGwire and Sosa treated the single-season HR record with reverence. In retrospect they too look like cheaters, but it wasn't AS obvious, mainly because McGwire, in particular, appears to have juiced for nearly his entire professional career, whereas Bonds started relatively late. The changes in Bonds' physique, and his power numbers are stunning - how many players get better, especially that much better, in their late 30s?

Believe me, it was obvious but no one cared. We were all so enamored with baseball again for the first time in years that we turned a blind eye. It's funny that when the guy that no one likes is the one taking the lead that the steroid gauntlet finally gets thrown. Steroids have been a problem in sports for years but now it is in the lime light.

The real question shouldn't be even directed at Barry Bonds but at sports in general. Why now? And when you boil it down and face the facts you will come to one understanding, it is NOW because of the medias hate for Barry Bonds.

Yesterday, when he was nearly begging Roger Clemens to come save their team.

Wow, did they bring up steroid use in the same sentence? I'm sure if Bonds were begging Clemens to come to SF they would find a way to sneak a 'roid reference in there.

It's a good day for a Red Sox fan.

I am hoping that Bonds just stops, just in respect for the game.

Barry is an ass. He treats other people like crap. People hated him before he started cheating so it's no wonder they hate him now.

As for Big Mac and Sammy... Nobody loves them now. You have to put their popularity during their home run battles in the context of steroids being a quietly whispered secret rumor back in the late 90's. Most people were unaware of the cheating that was going on in that era. And unlike Bonds, those two were very likeable guys.

In any case, while they may have been adored at the time, people are aware of things today that they weren't aware of then and both men have been fully tarnished. The only difference in most people's eyes between them and Bonds now is that Bonds is a raging a-hole whereas McGwire and Sosa were fairly likeable guys. But I think everyone agrees that they were all cheaters.

He deserves the record, roids or no roids. He has the best swing in baseball history. With that said I stopped paying to baseball long ago when the Yankee all-star team got as ridiculous as it is now. At least they aren't winning.

Ok, first of all, I think Bonds cheated. Secondly, he didn't really need to in order to get into the hall of fame. The guy is probably the best player of our generation. Although Pujols and Arod could topple him. That being said, I live in the Bay Area and I can't stand that guy. He is so arrogant and such a prick to everyone. I also understand that he has never been actually caught but anyone who says he was totally clean does not have much common sense.

BTW, you want to take a look at an obvious cheater. Look no further than a guy like Adrian Beltre. Where Bonds has been pretty consistentaly good. Look at this guy's career and tell me what season he was juiced

I hope Barry destroys the record and keeps playing. I really couldn't care less if entertainers take performance-enhancing drugs. People take sports far too seriously.

Actually I'd pay to watch a 'All Enhanced League' - see how much an athlete is willing to fsck up their body to be the best. All sorts of muties and freaks would be awesome.

this made me LOL

I wish I could find this now... The SNL skit at the "All-Drug Olympics"

edit: Found it! Link

When was Griffey accused of using roid?

I love Griffey. Wish he could have stayed healthy.. he'd probably be breaking many batting records. He was a hell of a fielder too.

if you want something else to follow, you could always follow Craig Biggio's march to 3,000 hits:)

Griffey was bar-none the best player in baseball for a while. It's a shame that he got slowed down by all of those injuries :(

Even though I don't really want him to break the record, it appears that it won't be long before he breaks it.
