Bonds comes as close as anyone but no one tops the Babe.
Ruth's numbers are ridiculous as it is, but then you look at the era he was playing in and it's even more amazing. In 1918 he led the league with 11 home runs, and in 1920 he hit 54 (the second-place guy had 19). He was the first and greatest slugger and he changed the game of baseball. Add to that his pitching accomplishments and the Babe is without doubt the greatest player of all time in my mind.

When Barry Bonds retires he will probably be remembered for two things - his home runs and his cold shoulder towards the media.
We remember Babe Ruth as arguably the greatest player to play the game, the guy so good he called his own shot in the World Series. He was a charitable guy who was nothing more than a big kid. There are stories of him ducking out from games between innings to visit local children?s hospitals close to ball parks and having a drink with fans after games at the local watering holes.
What stories about Berry Bonds the ambassador for baseball are we going to remember?
If anything we will forget about Bonds long before we forget about Babe Ruth
Hank Aaron was a great player too!

Hmm... never heard of this about Babe Ruth. All I've heard was that he was a womanizer, drunk, and kinda fat when he got old.
Bonds works hard and a great family guy.
It's not just his peers, though. Here we are in 2004 and Ruth is still:Originally posted by: ElFenix

anyone inventing the uppercut swing is going to look good compared to his peers.
