That's hilarious

Oh, and that's not racist you ignorant dipshit. It's stereotypical, which is just as hilarious anyway 😀

Amos and Andy, Little Black Sambo, don't throw that Tar Baby in the briar patch, and don't forget Rochester from the Jack Benny Show. It was a different time.

Although, Rochester really broke down a lot of stereotypes at the same time propped some up.

Odd, I didn't see any black people in that cartoon. Perhaps the racism comes from the person watching?

You're just being naive.

No, you people are applying the standards of today on something that is over 70 years old. Times change, and if you look back at previous times and apply your logic to what it was back then you'll always find something to complain about.

The fact of the matter is people had thicker skin back then and didn't cry and whine about everything.

But I guess those "Typical white person(people)" are really all racists and want to keep their boots on those n1ggers necks. :disgust:

Okay, now you are being both naive and stupid. Racial insensitivity is no different back in the day then it is now. There's a reason why some of these ads/books/etc were banned or pulled from some media outlets back then in your so called "thicker skinned" days. I will give you though the level of exposure today has grown exponentially larger then it was in the 30s-40s.

they werent banned "back in the day" they (and others. many bugs bunny ones are also) are banned now. you guys do know many of these "classic" cartoons are still shown today?

go watch Disney's Song of the South... unbelievable. Rest assured Disney won't be pulling that one "out of the vault" for special DVD release anytime soon.
"Tar Babies" .... jeebus.

I was watching the story of warner bros last night on PBS.
They showed some clips of the cartoons that were banned at the time.
Not racist, but was daffy duck looking out for the draft board and then boarding up his door when he saw them coming.
Another was daffy duck mocking Teddy Roosevelt .
Very 'un-american' for the time they were produced.

On the racist note, Huckleberry Finn was just added back to some schools reading list, where it had been banned.

Yes times have changed. But, way back then having a person other than white on screen was very risky. I for one applaud those film makers for doing so. No, it's not racist, it was risky. The Little Rascals is a perfect example. What show 70-80 years ago had any black person hanging out with a bunch of white people? None. The Little Rascals was groundbreaking for the time. Whether they depitcted the black kids as stereotypical is not the issue, the fact that they were even onscreen with whites was a huge thing back then and very progressive. Same as in Star Trek, Uhuru, a black woman on deck with the Captain, very progressive.

yeah, it's obviously racist, but look at the time in which the cartoon was made... what do you expect?

yes, lets get out panties in a bunch over something no one here probably ever would have seen or known about unless someone posted just to stir the pot......please....you guys will forget about this in a week.

don't make buckwheat come and kick your ass.

Real racism is why there are no guatamalean super heroes. Such a shame.

I missed where anyone in this thread got "upset" about the cartoons.

Indeed, 1935 America. Alot of McCain voters from that time. (that's a joke, I love you guys) 🙂

You missed the fact that they looked like monkeys. And your joke failed.

How so?

They looked like monkeys. That's much more offensive than watermelon. And your joke wasn't funny.

I saw no monkeys. No tails, no ooh ooh, ahh ahh, nothing to indicate any relation to monkeys. What video were you watching?

that was pretty bad😛 I went into it thinking that whatever I saw would probably be harmless, but that was pretty bad.

I can't even understand what they are saying.

Or do you just mean the watermelon?

The piece's entire comic value comes from the devaluing of an entire race.

I didn't find any of it funny.

The comic value is perceived on my part. I do not actually find it funny as I don't subscribe to the watermelon stereotype but am quite aware of how prevalent that stereotype was in the past.

<--and anyways, his culture WIPES THE FLOOR when it comes to eating watermelon😉*

*= I just realized that I have inadvertently posted a really insulting statement.:Q I will keep it up but did not realize what I wrote until I read it a second time.😱

You just made the argument for why these types of old shows and cartoons should not be banned.

I laugh when you guys say "banned" because clearly we are all outlaws now for watching such material. The bugs bunny/hitler videos are pretty funny.

thats what i was thinking. especially after they showed the mom and other kid sitting among the white folk in the audience, as well as putting the black babies in with the other white babies at the end. i thought it showed a lot of racial tolerance in there, even tho they stereotyped each race.
