No, you people are applying the standards of today on something that is over 70 years old. Times change, and if you look back at previous times and apply your logic to what it was back then you'll always find something to complain about.
The fact of the matter is people had thicker skin back then and didn't cry and whine about everything.

Okay, now you are being both naive and stupid. Racial insensitivity is no different back in the day then it is now. There's a reason why some of these ads/books/etc were banned or pulled from some media outlets back then in your so called "thicker skinned" days. I will give you though the level of exposure today has grown exponentially larger then it was in the 30s-40s.

I was watching the story of warner bros last night on PBS.
They showed some clips of the cartoons that were banned at the time.
Not racist, but was daffy duck looking out for the draft board and then boarding up his door when he saw them coming.
Another was daffy duck mocking Teddy Roosevelt .
Very 'un-american' for the time they were produced.
On the racist note, Huckleberry Finn was just added back to some schools reading list, where it had been banned.

Yes times have changed. But, way back then having a person other than white on screen was very risky. I for one applaud those film makers for doing so. No, it's not racist, it was risky. The Little Rascals is a perfect example. What show 70-80 years ago had any black person hanging out with a bunch of white people? None. The Little Rascals was groundbreaking for the time. Whether they depitcted the black kids as stereotypical is not the issue, the fact that they were even onscreen with whites was a huge thing back then and very progressive. Same as in Star Trek, Uhuru, a black woman on deck with the Captain, very progressive.

The comic value is perceived on my part. I do not actually find it funny as I don't subscribe to the watermelon stereotype but am quite aware of how prevalent that stereotype was in the past.

thats what i was thinking. especially after they showed the mom and other kid sitting among the white folk in the audience, as well as putting the black babies in with the other white babies at the end. i thought it showed a lot of racial tolerance in there, even tho they stereotyped each race.
