I'm not sure how to feel about this game mostly because there is little replay value. I played on the highest difficulty and reached "endgame" now, there is no challenge left or reason to continue.

I survived fires, influenza and mumps outbreaks, I have a pop of 380, acquired and planted every seed. I even got all stoned roads, built a few tunnels to sub cities, just nothing left to do. Nomads are constantly "applying" to join, I estimate I could keep this going forever but I think restricting adversary to mother nature was a bad move.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't too easy, it was very, very challenging but only up to about 100 citizens then it was pretty much on cruise control. Had I not known it was a 1 man project, the game didn't give that away. It looks good and it's polished, I didn't notice any bugs. Some of the minor flaws I can easily overlook, the price is fair, I just feel like there isn't enough game.

There should be Mods coming soon.

Yeah the Market seems to make a difference, I'm having a much easier time in this new city. As well, I'm wondering if the gatherers can do their job in the winter? Can't pick blue berries in the winter.

Ok so I bought the game and I'm wondering if it is broken.

I didn't read any guides or anything so just going by intuition, but I built 5 houses, couple of crop fields, a fisherman dock, firewood cutter dude and hunter lodge. In the beginning it was good I'd assign jobs and people would work. After a small amount of time however I am finding a lot of jobs not being worked on, where are all my people?

I start digging around by clicking on houses and then clicking to focus on occupants and I am finding streams of people walking to the edge of the map and back, mostly saying "John is trying to find something to eat". Huh? Why doesn't he use the food that is in the inventory of his own house? He has potatos, beans and fish for crying out loud. What the fuck is he finding at the edge of the map?

You may have sent them somewhere they can't reach. They'll just wander trying to reach the place until they starve to death. Make sure to build bridges over creeks/rivers.

I fear this about banished, seems like there should be an enemy, like a barbarian attack or something.

I'm at this point after only a few days of play. Not really worth $20.

I thought it was a pretty good game. My first town i starved everyone to death. But my second town I went heavy on food the first couple years and built a reserve up then started expanding. The only issue ive had was all the initial people died at the same time and they were all my food producers. Had 10 adults die to starvation before i could recover. But since then its been pretty smooth sailing.

I see what you mean by "nothing to do" once you get over that sort of hurdle. But its like sim city too. Once you get going you just keep building up your city till its as far as you care to go.

Most issues ive seen can be pretty easily patched. Mostly just logic type stuff that i think should be better. Or things like adding carts to move materials. or upgrading barns and some of the other buildings to stone. You can do it for houses but not certain buildings. Even if it provides no real benifit it would just make the city look more updated

Im excited to see what the mods do. The base game is decent but i htink with mods we could see some pretty impressive things.

This game is fun/challenging in a SimCity2000 way. Im SC2000, it didn't take very long to figure out how to "Game" your cities and sprawl them to epic proportions...I'm sure I'll have that same feeling with Banished.

Banished is just a charming edition of that type of citybuilding sim, and it makes me very happy.

Part puzzle challenge, part artistic expression.

I finally found the 'disable weather effects' checkbox in the options menu, and there was much rejoicing.

Spread out food over all the food sources. A few fishing docks, a few gathering huts, hunting huts, and farming. Farming is so dang unreliable and varies to much to only rely on it. If you do to much farming compared to the others you're screwed.

Good adivce and its what i have done. i have farming, chickens, fishing, hunting, and gatherers. I will say Farming is by far the most annoying. Seems like it takes a crap ton of farmers for the yeild they get. I have 41 farmers right now and it doesnt feel like they really bring in enough food for the number at work. But its where i put the nomads :)

How many hours did it take you to get there?

What resources (guides, tutorials) did you use to get there?

Probably about 20-30 hours and I read zero guides. I restarted a ton of times. I got a few pieces of crucial info from friends, like the barn/market placement and using the market employee properly, but otherwise I just restarted many times testing things myself.

20-30 hours seems more than fair for $20.

This game is very replayable. I've played in almost 5 hours and still learning new things. I've already lost 3 villages. lol

First game in ages I've actually played 2 hours at a time without realizing it.

To you, maybe. To me, not at all. I'd have paid $10 for it. Over $10 and I expect high levels of replay ability. This game doesn't have it. Once you reach that plateau on the hardest setting, the game is no longer challenging and becomes instantly boring because there's nothing left to do.

The game forum seems to be packed with two different kinds of players, too. One kind of player is the kind that constantly struggles and loses a lot. The other kind of player seems to be the kind that isn't challenged and very quickly masters the game and is done with it.

Man, and people call me strict with my 1 hour per $1 minimum. :p

interested in the game but not sure I want to spend $20 on it with all the comments I've been seeing.

its totally worth $20

Great time killer.

I started playing the other evening at 7oclock. Then I felt tired and looked at my watch and it was 11pm already. Totally immersed.

I keep running into over population problems. Too many babies being born, not enough food and tools, (This is at the 400 person mark) and then it all goes crashing down. I tried minimizing the number of houses I build to try and slow down growth but population still somehow always skyrockets.
Then I thought "hey, maybe if I dont build churches my people will use contraceptives." But nope, same problem.

With farming I found that if I build them at 15x10 and limit the number of workers per field to 2 that I maximize production.
A 15x15 sized field with three workers still gives a 1:75 worker:area ratio but it seemed that the fields were not being harvested in time for winter.

Oh and I found a bug
After a disaster like fire or tornado, if you select "Demolish" on ruined buildings then "Cancel Removal" (Press F9 then 7 highlight a building) the building will immediately pop back into place fully rebuilt without using time or supplies. Game must be unpaused to work

I can't manage my resources properly still. I seem to run out of one thing, then run out of the other.

Mining is an extreme pain in the ass. I also wish there was a way I could tell my villagers to stop stealing my blacksmiths coal to heat their homes..that's what the firewood is for! lol

Is there a way to evict people from homes? I want to evict the elderly surviving parent living by themselves and send them to the boarding house turning it into a nursing home

I ended up buying it. Kind of lost a bit on what to do with regards to wood. I seem to run out constantly. I have a forester but I seem to keep clearcutting to keep up with wood demands. Stone is another thing I keep running out of.

Doing fine with food though.

Also I want to keep building stuff my people need but I run out of people to man the buildings...how do you keep up with that?

Sounds like you are going a little too fast. Maybe try upping the game speed so your people can keep up with your pace.

people only move into houses when they are a couple right?

My village is full of pedophiles then.

I've got a 39 year old guy living with a 10 year old girl...
http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/pontifex/pedovillagers.jpg

several others are like 21 and 14.

Hmm...i don't think that is correct. I have a house with 1 guy living by himself. so Parles is probably Elian's father then?
