At first I was put off that he had a part in the movie. I can't stand that actor. I managed to get over it.

I agree, casting David Schwimmer was stupid.

It didn't ruin it for me. It made it THAT much better. Ross is a pansy ass prick on Friends and he played a pansy ass stuck up incompetant leader to the TEE in BOB. Perfect casting :D

No matter what movie or show they are in, the Friends actors are branded as their character counterpart for life... except maybe Jennifer Aniston.

But when Jimmy Falon drove up in the jeep, I found that funny.

Yeah but they made up for it in one of the last episodes when Sobel walks by, ignoring Winters. Major Winters replies "Captain Sobel, you salute the rank, not the man." I frickin loved that part :)

This was truly an incredible series. I couldn't take my eyes of the television. It was so dramatic and yet parts were touching and funny. It was upsetting to see some of the people die because after a while, you grew attached to them. Each one was better than the last

they do. I've been getting the Sopranos season 1 from netflix and I'm enjoying it as much as BoB. Of course, I paid for the BoB set and I'm only renting the Sopranos, if that means anything.

Be sure and read the book first. You will get much more out of the series.

With some work you can get BOB on DVD, previously rented, for $35 at Blockbuster.

A little over 10 hours. Some episodes were a little longer than an hour IIRC. Plus you have the bonus DVD

It is the best movie / series / TV show I have ever seen (not discounting other opinions, we are all different of course).

No series has ever put me smack dab in the middle of it like BoB did. You begin to know the people by name, and feel geniune loss when bad things come to some. Its a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs...marveling at badass (cough cough Spiers cough), feeling for those you just know arent going to make it. I love that period in history and BoB is the best account of those times I have seen. In the end I wished it was 20 parts, not 10.

FYI, each episode begins with interviews of surviving E company personell, but they do not tell you who they are until the very last part. A testament to how well the series was made / casted, I knew who most of them were before it was actually revealed.

BUY THIS NOW

Check out I, Claudius before you get too antsy to declare it "hands down best miniseries ever."

They are so different in material that you might call each a "genre best," but Claudius is even broader in scope than BOB.

BOB is probably the best WW2 production all-in-all due to its dedication to historical accuracy and choice of focus - 101st Airborne kicked @ss, period.

53 dollars! In here (Finland) it's like 43 euros :Q! The reason I'm shocked is because usually everything is more expensive here!

I'm definitely in the crowd that loves it. I got it for Christmas without having seen it when it was on HBO and I don't regret it a bit. As good as some of the other movies listed in this thread are, I think BoB is even better than all the rest of those. Some of those movies (SPR, for instance) are leaps and bounds better than your average movie; in my opinion, BoB is leaps and bounds ahead of even the rest of the war movies. I was completely engrossed in it. My brother, who doesn't usually go for long movies and that sort of thing, loved BoB and tried his best to convince me to leave it at home when I came back to school so he could watch it again.

Buy it now. It's definitely worth whatever price you can find it for.

Um...how about Tora! Tora! Tora!? BoB was great, but I think TTT is the best.

I bought I Claudius when it came out on DVD (after seeing it on video in college for a Pagan Culture course) and have to say that BofB is better. I Claudius has better acting, but face it, the scenery is pretty cheesy. BofB is like making I Claudius with the special effects and budget of Gladiator. Plus the I Claudius subject matter was harder to get your brain around... if you don't have an interest in Roman history, you aren't going to understand or care about all that goes on. Plus the IC DVD was pretty poorly made... no menus, no special features, and not the greatest film print in the world.

I got BoB for Christmas, and it's one of the best gifts I've gotten. It's beautifully done, and one of the few pieces of cinema that can bring some tears to my eyes. The brotherhood they form is so tangible that you almost don't want the series to end; you want to stick with the Band! It's fantastic!

You all left out the best part of the DVD, the comments made by the actual people of EASY Company before each episode. That by far is the best part of the whole series, it you shows you why they were "The Greatest Generation."
