I thought harbor masters steer ships until they get to open water?youtube admiral here, but it didn't look like it was in the proper lane before it lost power in the first place.

Or require tugs until past the bridge. After a similar incident happened in Florida decades ago, you would think that for busier shipping channels, they would put in some pillar protecting piers.

That's a really big ship. I imagine it'd feel something like running into a fence with a pickup.Pretty good view:

9 year old ship should have full auto sat nav package meaning they pick the route and the ship navigates itself out. Pilots still in command and lookouts watch for small vessels.I thought harbor masters steer ships until they get to open water?
No it's a current image from a camera that was never set up.Horrific accident. Not sure what to say to those affected.
Anyone else concerned that, if this is indeed the Dali, that they have a picture from 1999 of what looks like a bridge or crane section on top of it. Is this a regular occurrence with this ship?
Ship went into service in 2015. Unless it is the USS Philadelphia, it couldn't have been in a picture in 1999.Horrific accident. Not sure what to say to those affected.

Dali can topple that as well. It's like nobody ever heard of the Big Mac with a 3,800' span.

Never mind, tracking shows it was in lane before loss of power, kind of surprised it can drift sideways that much. Unless there is some maelstrom under water.
Each time the lights went out in that video, they lost the ability to change rudder position. If it happened to be in the position for a correction when it started, It would just keep making that turn with the inertia driving it.Never mind, tracking shows it was in lane before loss of power, kind of surprised it can drift sideways that much. Imagine if it had been 5 or 6 hours later.
Yeah but they were already lined up, so unless there is some serious undercurrent it should not require big adjustments. Each time the lights went out in that video, they lost the ability to change rudder position. Imagine being in your car and you made a little correction at speed, and then the wheel was no longer connected.
It would not take long to get in the ditch that way.
EDIT: Much better detail of the power going out, back on, out.
I called it almost exactly. Republicans are just a bunch of evil fuckers. They will find a way to blame Biden. Probably criticize his Infrastructure Bill as to why they never updated the bridge.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) suggested Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act may be to blame.
He's making it easy for them...I called it almost exactly. Republicans are just a bunch of evil fuckers.
