Way to go republicans. About time some one stood up to the president and paulson and told them no. It is a shame that democrats refused to do it.

That's odd. I listened to the radio on the way into work this morning. A local conservative host was blaming Pelosi's speech and the lack of unity within the (D) party for the bailout not passing.

So, are congressional Republicans really so EMO that they decide whether to vote for a bill based on Pelosi's speech? If they lack the ability to act rationally, and instead act out of spite, how can they be trusted to have any power?

For once, we agree on something.

I listened to the speech, she needed to STFU.

You Fail

What Pelosi said

Poor little Loosey Moosey had his wittle feelings hurt ...

by the truth.

Right, because grown men make decisions about one of the most historic votes of their careers not based on their own judgment and convictions, but based on what an opposition leader says the morning of? What she said was what she has been saying for a long time, she is leader of the opposing party, that's her job. Can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen and don't take out your emo problems on the American people. There are plenty of reasons to vote against this bill, but GOP had to pick the most pathetic one they could find.

Honestly, I don't think her speech swayed even one vote, however, in the spirit of bipartisanship, the speech sucked. There's plenty of time to point fingers, that wasn't one of those times. She could have reached across the aisle, instead, she chose to nuke it.

I'm not a Republican, and she pissed me off, even if she was 100% correct, she needed to make a conciliatory gesture, not that crap.

Next time you're trying to negotiate the price on a car, a major purchase or playing office politics, use her approach and see how far it gets you.

While I think it was the worst possible time for a speech like that, I agree with you in principle. If some asshole was going to vote for something this important and decided to vote against it because their feelings got hurt then they should be ran out of congress.

And they don't have power anymore, do they? How'd the party in power do?

12 of either side had the power to pass this bill. However, no one is suggesting that some Dems didn't vote for the bill because the Republican leadership hurt their feelings.

Becauuse grown women try to get support for one of the msot important bills in history (and a bill that many people do NOT support) not by being reasonable and calm but by being bitter and hateful.
Same ole shit from the D's. Frothing at the mouth mad and exepcting to use fear and intimidation to get people to bow to their will. Its ridiculous you support this or her. Then again, I'm not suprised.

Come on man. Granted, I think Pelosi is a partisan idiot (much like 80% of Congress) who made the worst possible speech at the worst possible time but if anyone uses her speech as an excuse to NOT vote for the bill they should be ran out of Congress.

"5 minutes ago I agreed with a bill (at least enough to vote for it) that people are saying could prevent the country from going into another great depression but some bitch hurt my feelings so now I am going to vote against it." Give me a break... I despise Pelosi but this is schoolyard bullshit.

Pelosi was out of line. Given the importance of getting aid to the financial sector, the Republican reaction was completely out of line.

If a bill doesn't start sending money to the financial sector, the government is going to be on the hook for billions of dollars anyway. Wachovia's failure yesterday may have been avoided if the aid package had passed. Instead, we are now on the hook for nearly $300 billion and that's BEFORE any bailout package gets passed.

Well there racist, the Republicans could havesaid they had better reasons to vote against if they did. They said they voted against it because she pointed out the Republicans' flaws.

If the bill had the flaws you imply it did, then why were they going to to vote for the bill had she not made that speech?

Your post is pathetic, not quite so much as your sig is.

I'm saying its a two way street. You have to be a pretty ignorant, shallow, narrowminded idiot to truly say its the R's fault after the speech Pelosi gave. I mean honestly. If it was that important maybe Pelosi shouldnt have acted like a child? Maybe, just maybe, she should have taken it a bit more seriously then she did.

By the same token, the R's not favoring the bill solely on the grounds of the speech is a bit childish too. However lets not overlook the fact some 40% for the Democrats also did not favor the bill.

Which means pissing and moaning about flip flops due to Pelosis speech is petty and foolish on every level. Theres so many more important underlying issues that parading around the 10 or 20 who changed due to the speech is simply more political grandstanding. Lets address the issue of 40% of D's who dont support it or the speech itself.

Hyperinflation huh?

How many econ classes have you taken in your life? Here's a fun exercise - what happens to money supply during a credit crunch? If people withdraw money from banks, money markets, savings accounts etc and stick them into mattresses and/or treasuries. Does that expand money supply or contract it?

Hope you realize how idiotic your post is...

It was Jack Harris on 970WFLA (Fox News Radio) and he's definitely a conservative.

There is simply no way to excuse anyone who chose to vote against this bill because a speech made them sad. I honestly think this was just a lie in a ham handed effort by Boehner to find a way to spread the blame better for the bill's failure. If it turns out to be true though, I hope the names of these people come out so that they can be voted out of office immediately.

It is disturbing as either a truth or a false excuse. If it's a lie it shows they don't have the insight to see how inept this excuse makes they appear and if they really voted against the bill b/c their feelings were hurt, them we need to get those guys out of there asap.

You do realize that money supply is a double-ended flow, right? What you've mentioned is just the consumer flow, arguably the least important of the two. What you're forgetting is the governmental flow INTO the economy. If people "withdraw money from banks, money markets, savings accounts etc and stick them into mattresses and/or treasuries", what will happen? The Fed will make more available to lenders through their 'overnight window'. That will EXPAND the money supply, since you are adding to a market with no outflows (remember that according to you people are stuffing their dollars into a mattress, so the only way to remove money from the economy is to go into each home and forcibly remove it). If the credit crunch is bad enough, the gov't will continue to make money available. That's how hyperinflation works, the government tries to print its way out of trouble, which is exactly what the bailout is, but on a smaller scale.

Hope you realize how idiotic your post is...

Whether or not republicans cried like girls and changed their vote because a bitter old liberal proved yet again she cant lead is irrelevant. Democrats could have passed this without much help from republicans.

So while they play partisan politics our credit markets continue their spiral downward.
