My question to you is, why does it bother you? Big deal, you rip it apart.


I don't know why but it bothers me too, especially those ones that when you try to rip apart causes the O on the bagel to break after you separate them because a chunk of the top is still stuck to the bottom.

Because one of the ones I just had was a pita to rip apart without shredding the thing. It was the occasional far less than 95% cut bagel. I almost grabbed a knife, but some my mind suddenly had some recollection about how dangerous it is to cut bagels with knives.

although it does allow for the use of those nifty bagel slicers, which I like using very very much. :awe:

You have a line of bagels on the conveyor in the bakery. They head to the slicer and get cut all the way. You now have tops and bottoms all over the place when they are put into the bags.

Instead you cut so the top and bottom are still attached. They now neatly file into the bags.

That is my guess anyway.

Well ... he is in rural western NY, which to my knowledge is much much different vs NYC.... probably cheaper to buy packages of bagels at the store vs going to an expensive bagel joint. Also, he may not have a good local bagel joint.
 
I don't like it because it makes it harder for me to smoothly apply my cream cheese. I have to make it for it by piling even more cream cheese on.

Interesting thread. I have been on a bagel kick lately. A sandwich made with a bagel just seems much more appetizing. I like Turkey and cream cheese or even peanut-butter and cream cheese. Sounds gross but the cream cheese smooths out the peanut-butter and makes for a filling meal.
 
The fact that you rejected all of the answers you already found online does not make those answers incorrect. It is you that are incorrect, sir. Bagel half matching is a perfectly reasonable goal.

Don't you run your own farm and do all your house and car repairs? But you've been defeated by the task of cutting a bagel scrap with a knife? I guess every super hero has his weakness. Superman has a green element from his home planet, DrPizza has boiled breads.
 
it's so the bagel cutter blades do not wear down. A different blade is used, coming from either side of the bagel, compared to bread and other baked goods; when the blades come down to cut the bagel, they go through from either side and they found it was causing too much wear on the blades when pushing them all the way through, since they would of course make contact.

The solution to this was to stop the blades at the midway point, which still allows the consumer to easily finish off the cut themselves, while at the same time conserving the blades for a longer period. Some companies do a better job than others, but generally i do not find it to be too difficult to pry the two halves apart and if it keeps the cost of bagels down, i'm all for it.

Depends where you get them from.

The Panarabread ones tend to be cut all the way through.


They are cut all the way through because they only cut them 1/4 of the way down. So you get the top of a bagel that's like a 1/2 slice of bread in the middle narrowing down to the thickness of a potato chip at the sides...while the bottom is like two slices of bread thick all the way through.

And they always do that on my favorite ones like the cinnamon crunch and some bastard steals the crunch laden goodness top out of the box and you get the leftover cinnamon crunchless bottom.
