Bad year for movies. definitely.

I was just going thru box office mojo's stuff and yes, it has been a bad year for movies so far. ytd figures have been less than the last 3 yrs and even 2001 in terms of tickets sold was very close to this year.

but you don't really need those figures to tell you it's been a bad year for movies. it's also a gut feel to. how many block buster films have there been this year?

Just imagine if Revenge of the Sith hadn't come out. How many sales did that account for?

Next year should do a bit better. X-Men 3. 3rd Spiderman (I think). King Kong.

sith was like 380mill

Year YTD
2005 $7,443.3
2004 $8,119.1
2003 $7,915.3
2002 $7,853.3
2001 $6,926.3

so ya, you take out sith and even in raw numbers 2005 struggles to beat 2001. taken in consideration average ticket prices are much higher now than in 2001, 2005 has been a dog of a year.

It's because Hollywood can take advantage of suckers. Even if the movie is a steaming pile of dog shyt, it still will kill at the box office.

If you ask me, I havn't seen a really good movie in a long time.

did you see any of the lord of the rings movies? those were pretty good.

there are a handful of good movies from the last 5 yrs, but that's probably true of any 5 yr period.

Yes, except for the Lord of Ring's series there has been a whole lot being offered the last 5 years

If Hollywood could make more decent movies, I might go to the theaters more often. Most of the movies nowadays are total crap, apparently made for mentally-challenged ADD sufferers.

If you're going to do that, then you have to take out Lord of the Rings from the previous years aswell. I mean, you can't just remove a movie and say the year sucked.

really?

spiderman was very good, Matrix (at least 1 anyway) was very good, Mystic River, The Terminal, The Last Samurai (and i hate tom cruise), The Day After Tomorrow, The Italian Job, Big Fish, Something's Gotta Give, 50 First Dates, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Bourne Identity, The Butterfly Effect, House of Sand and Fog.

there are more, but all the films i just listed are pretty good. some of them are even VERY good. i'd rank Something's Gotta Give up there with the classics. The Terminal was EXCELLENT. Mystic River was very very good.

i said the year sucked even without taking out Sith.

Well I am just saying that if you look at the percentage of movies being released, versus the ones that are actually good, the % is pretty bad..

Matrix Series's I liked but the other ones on your list I didn't like too well I suppose

but that's true of any given time period. name one period of time where you liked every movie that came out?

Bulls#$%!!! The Karate Kid was a great film!! It was the 5th highest money maker for the year it was released.

The summer movie lineup was extremely disappointing. This winter lineup of movies actually looks better with Harry Potter, Narnia, King Kong, etc.
