Bad year for movies. definitely.

I havn't seen a REALLY good movie at all this year, except the ones I own on dvd.

Star wars III was pretty damn good, as I'm a huge star wars fan, but It wasn't life changing.

I made the mistake of listening to my friends and seeing Jarhead. Worst damn movie I've seen in a long time. I liked Star Wars and I'm seeing Harry Potter later tonight, but this year has really been terrible for movies... maybe Syrianna can help?

I saw more films this year than last year or the year before. But that was like 5 films, so it's nothing big.

it's cause people pirate movies online

People who watch those pirated movies are also the people who decide to buy the genuine DVDs.

where do you get that from? ...

anyway : My example for what's wrong with Hollywood is "The Island". 4 years ago it woulda been a huge blockbuster success. But every studio is releasing movies like this that just appeal to everyone, is bareable - but no one particularly likes them. As a result they don't do incredibly well since they don't get good word of mouth in hollywood.

There is no risk in hollywood - they use formula's to determine how to make cash, but the movie industry is about art and taste.

The reason theaters are doing so poorly is because of their ridiculous prices. And the fact that movies come out on DVD so fast these days.

I've been pissed at the movie industry since 1997. Only a handful of decent flicks have come out since then. The other 99.9% is crap.
That doesnt bother me. Its the fact so many Americans are thrilled with all the sh1t that keeps coming out every year.

Is our national IQ really dropping so fast? Or are we just bored out of our skulls and numb to the action-packed news?

People actually go if there is something decent to see. There has just been less good product than the last few years.

I don't mind in the least...and I single handedly support most of my local theaters 😉 It's almost winter and Oscar season is upon us...I usually see a ton of movies during the summer because I have the time, but most of the quality films hit october+ when there are exams and parties to attend.

I'm just glad I've caught up with Capote and Good Luck, and Good night...now it's time for the Best Picture films to present themselves 😛

No. The answer: Junior High / Middle School kids go to movies.
