i think ur right, because everytime i try to open my essay, the comp locks up... is this most likley a cpu problem

it hovered about 50-51c when i left it completeley alone

heres my voltages, they didnt change much when i put in the other psu. only about +/-.02

On the CPU tab, what is "Voltage"?
What is "Core Speed"?

On the "Memory" tab, what is "Channel #"?
What is "Frequency"?
What are the timings?

i already got it but it says:

the voltage keeps going between 1.216 and 1.232 even though in bios i have it set to 1.325
the core speed is between 2006-2008MHz

channel # is dual
freq. is 334.5
4-4-4-12 then it says 19 and command rate is 2T

Is there any process on the "Processes" tab in "Task Manager" that is taking the CPU time?

Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del.
Select the "Processes" tab on the window that opens up.
Look under the column titled "CPU". Is there any process other than "System Idle Process" with a number higher than 5?

edit: actually dllml.exe can get up to 6 at points

How much free disk space have you got on your XP drive (percentage)?

i got 93% free space on my hd.
where do i check virtual memory?

Right click on "My Computer" and click on "Properties". On the "Advanced" tab, click on "Settings" under "Performance". On the "Advanced" tab, you can see "Virtual Memory".

I'm afraid I am out of ideas!

If the issue was the lockups, you could run Prime for 10 hours to make sure that it would not stop because of an error and if it did, you would have to improve cooling for the CPU.
But, your computer being sluggish is a puzzle. This does not make much sense to me.

I suggest that you make another post in the "General Hardware" forum. There is more traffic.
Make it short and to the point and ask for help. I am sure others will help to figure it out.
